I’ve just finished my P-51 for the NMF II group build. I used Alclad II polished aluminum, and Tamiya acrylics for the olive drab and stripes. I used leftover decals from a past Tamiya P-51.

Very nice! I really need to try Alcad, looks sharp. I really like the paint scheme too.
Which kit was this? Was it the really inexpensive one? My local shop sells those for like 8.50
EDIT: I quit being lazy and used Google, it seems this is the inexpensive kit. For the price these are kind of hard to beat. As you’ve shown you can dress them up very nicely.

Great looking Mustang, Max! Just one eensy weensy little thing though. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but, refering to the first picture before the fuselage was closed up, isn’t the rectangular object under the radios the fuselage fuel tank? If that’s correct, I’ve seen pictures of them being black rubber rather than interior green. Or was there a metal cover over it?

You are right, it probably should be black. I did my other one like that, however I was planning to make this more of a practice kit and just followed the kit’s instructions, but as I got into it more, I tried to make it a kit that I wanted to display.

I think it looked great Rob! I know what you mean about starting out a kit with one intention and then having it end up in all new direction. I’m working on a little Spad by Testors right now. It was just supposed to be an inexpensive fun build that I’m building for the kid of a friend of a friend (figure THAT one out!). But as the build goes on, it’s actually turning out so much nicer than I anticipated.
Your Mustang looks really good. I love the P-51 because they were veritable works of art when it comes to their markings.
