Revell 1/48 P-38J Finished

Stick a fork in me, I’m done!!! [dinner]

Here are the final photos of my 1/48 Revell P-38J (vintage 1964 [#toast]) right before I put it into the display case. There are some major fit issues with the kit, but if you’re patient and have seam filling skills you’ll be good to go. There is no way on God’s green earth though that you can get all the canopy parts to fit properly, they’re just not shaped correctly for that to happen. [(-D] I chose to build mine as the one flown by Major Richard Bong.

I built this kit as part of the Secret Santa GB hosted by jwb (Jon) which was a lot of fun! [:D]

Nice work on a difiicult kit Scott [tup][tup] What did you use for the NMF?

Nicely done, Scott. Now you’re making me want to start the P-38 I have in my stash.

[#ditto] what Dave said…What did you use for the NMF?

The P-38 lines have always been sleek. Great job on Bong’s aircraft, a very historical plane. You’ve done nice things with that miserable kit! [tup]

[#ditto] What they said! Nice job, Scott!

Thanks guys. The kit was a fair amout of work, especially the seams between the twin booms and the wings. The gaps were huge! [:O]

Nice work on an old relic of a kit. Looks good.

Regards, Rick

Espins, that’s what I found on my Marge, too. I’m gonna do the same kit again, though, in the P-38 GB. I learned enough from this one that I think I can do better. I’ll not be beaten by a few pieces of molded plastic[:(!]!

Yours looks great!

Ditto on the nice job. How much weight did you use, and where did you put it?

Nice Job Scott.[tup] I have watched a friend build this kit before, even though it has problems I put it in my stash anyway.[;)]

Chris

Thanks for all the kind words my friends. [:)]

I didn’t do anything special, just carefully airbrushed some Tamiya XF-16 Flat Aluminum all over. [:)]

I’m not sure how heavy each weight was. I have a set of miscellaneous, conical shaped lead weights. I used two each of the biggest and glued them inside the front of each engine nacelle which turned out to be more than enough to keep the nose down. I used CA to secure them. You can kinda see them in this photo.
