Howdy all! So, first actuall finished post on the forum! This is my F/A-18E with wolfpack design folding wingset, which includes the dropped flaps. I also added Eduards PE cockpit and seat detail set. This was actually a first ever for me, using resin upgrade parts and prepainted PE. It really did teach me alot, the result isn’t perfect but it does look really really cool compared to just the straight wing in the kit and the normal cockpit. Overall, the Wolfpack kit was a joy to put together, it was my skill sometimes letting me down. I used Tamiya’s AS-25 and 26 light and dark ghost grey to paint. I know that Tamiya’s paint is way too cool, as it is too blue, so I tried to tone it down with a dark brown wash across the whole plane. I also used the pencil method of shading the panel lines (first time!). That turned out better than i expected for sure. Decals are from Fightertown, and I decided to go with VFA-31, as the tomcaters are my probably my favorite squadron. Decals took most of my time, the fightertown decals had a bit of a tendency to curl. I also had quite a few lift on me after putting the flat clear on it. Overall, it was a great experience building my first true big plane in some time. I think if I didn’t start with the Revell kit, it would have turned out better. But like others have said, the Revell kit is decent for the money. I just probably went a little overboard 8)
Sounds like u progressed as a modeler friend! It looks good from where I sit. Aftermarket stuff can be intimidating. Looks like you handled it. Thanks for sharing.
Super build of a Super Hornet! How much cutting to get the flaps and wings ready for the aftermarket parts. I’d really like to fold the wings on my next carrier aircraft (F/A18E) build.
That’s a great looking build there. [Y]I’ve got a Wolf Pack wing fold set for my Eduard Hellcat that I’d like to give a try. What was your experience with the Wolf Pack set?
The wolfpack set was great! Exceptional resin quality, and the fit to the kit was very nice. The instructions were a bit vauge… But I was able to fill in the gaps where i needed to. There was a lot of cutting involved, at least for this kit. About 5-7 hours in total of cutting and sanding and filling, but that is just of the nature of both the dropped slats, mid flaps and full extended flaps. The set is quite extensive. Overall, I would and have bought another Wolfpack set to use, this time on a 1/72 hornet! (Thinking of doing a carrier landing diorama)
Thanks all!!! In a appreciate, and while i’m out sick, i figured i’d go snag some pictures in the sun for y’all! Hope these are a bit better than the vauge first post
