Revell 1/48 Corsair finished w/pics

This is Revell’s 1/48 F4U-4 Corsair. It’s got a smudge on the canopy that I can’t figure out how to get off…and I’ve already fixed the bent wheel. Here’s some pics…enjoy.

Thanks for looking,

Josiah

Nice paint finish !

I am not familiar with F4U schemes, I presume experimental but what post war year?

In any case, you would do well painting a Star Trek Next Generation Enterprise.

Did you mask the entire aircraft for each color or one section at a time?

Thanks for looking!

It’s just a what-if scheme. I wanted to try digital camo on this because the color I painted it was too light of a blue to be a Korean bird, which this kit is of.

IMO it looks more like a cross between digital and that abstract pattern seen on some ships in WWII. Not quite what I had in mind but I like it anyways… I cut pieces of tape and masked the whole airplane over the base color, painted the camouflage gray, masked it again and painted it black, masked it again and painted it a lighter color than the original blue. It was then too blue and with the encouragement of a friend I went back over it with the camouflage gray. Then once that was done I added a couple spots of the original blue and here it is.

Wierd camo but nicely done.

Regards, Rick

That looks pretty cool. I bet that took alot of patience to mask.

I would encourage you to try it again and maybe make the colors a little more muted. Just my opinion.

Again looks great.

Wow…

Shakes head and blinks eyes rapidly

Wow…

Shakes head again

“What if” what???

A "what if " [:O] Revell, Hans…[;)]

Thanks for looking in guys, I appreciate it.

I’m definately going to try putting digital camo, most likely MARPAT, on another aircraft, probably another Revell that I can buy at work. I’m not sure I understand what you mean by muted though?

Glad yall like it,

Josiah

Nice work. It is almost guaranteed that you won’t find another one like that in your next contest.

You think that is a “bright” camo scheme? Check this one !

Woah ! THAT camo is “bright” !

Well it certainly has that wow factor, i like it…Nicely done…[Y][Y][Y]

Sprue-ce Goose,

Whoa! That’s a bright camo!!!

Josiah,

I guess by muted I mean shades of the same color family. It might just be the photo of my vision[:$].

There wasa an example in the March issue of FSM of a F-16 done in the digital camo.

It looks like you left the masking tape on there! lol

Very awesome paint finish. I wish I could do something like that.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

To the muting of the colors, I understand now. Next time I do digital camo I am going to choose the colors better, I’m planning on doing MARPAT the next time I try digital. For these colors I just went to the store and picked the ones that looked the best together and since I don’t have a LHS the colors were limited.

Jason: There were multiple times where i used an exacto knife to pick up some of the masking tape and it scraped right through the paint! I think it’s because the paint kind of ridged up against the masking tape and dried so when I pulled it up it was right on the line, next time I’ll have to not use as much paint I guess =/

Again thanks for looking in and commenting guys, I appreciate the feedback,

Josiah

Joshia, It’s all about having fun, and producing something you can be proud of. Don’t be afraid to take risks. You will improve your skills every time you do. Keep up the good work. Rick.
