Revell 1/48 B-29 SuperFortress in progress

I’ve been working on this for about three weeks now, and have came pretty far. The part fit has been good, it does need a lot of paint. Its true that the paint for this bird can cost you more than the kit itself, I will be doing a NMF on this B-29. And hope at the end she turns out looking shinny.

This last photo, I was test fitting it to see if anything was in the wrong place.

It looks great so far. The interior looks painted very nicely. Keep up posted.

Man…that is quite a job to take on. Beautiful work so far! Nice interior detail.

Good luck with the dihedrals!

Looking good so far. I’ve seen a few of these built up & they are impressive.

Regards, Rick

Nice work! I think the wingspan of that kit is larger than my workbench! [:O]

She’s lookin good! I’ve got one in my stash. I really like the interior. What colors did you use?

Very nice work on the interior of the B-29! [tup] [tup] I will be watching closely for more update pics. That is going to be one impressive bird when you get her done!

Thanks to you all for the commets, this bird is really fun to put together. The main interior color I used is Sac Bomber Tan, that was the closest thing I could find to Flat Dark Green. In the next day or two, the wing span is 36 inchs so she just barly fits on my table.

I recommend allclad II if you really want a mirrorlike finish. It is pricey, about 7 to 8 bucks for a 1/2? ounce bottle. But…it gives EXCEPTIONAL reflectivity if sprayed over a good glosscoat. It comes in several shades including ultra bright chrome and polished aluminum. It is airbrush only and have good ventilation cause it will kill you… but it looks awesome!!

My favorite glosscoat for Alclad is acrylic black-usually Testors.

But if you haven’t used it before, don’t start now on this one. I’ve made that mistake. A really good alternative is either Testors Metallic Silver or Chrome, both in the rattler.

Really.

Looks great from here, the NMF will makes for a great model. In the background, are those what I think? (the 2 bombs)

looks good [tup] my only advice… is the access tube which goes along the top add some lead weight into that tube near the front and under any floor you can’t see when put together, i also put lead inside the front wheels and in the forward bombs, you see this baby is all ass and no weight at the front and takes some doing to make it stand on it’s own [:(!] with out that support they supply you with.

also make sure the wheels are cemented very strong as there is alot of weight on them.

the kits decals are brilliant and go on very well.

the big bomb on your table is the one used to drop on japan, this bird was available as ENOLA GAY some years back [8D]

ian.

I’m always impressed by the sheer size of the kit…well don so far, Feld. Have you found a place suitable to display it?>

Sweet!

I’ll be taking notes as I have two giant, unbuilt kits from the “Big-Bad & Beautiful” series from Monogram. (B-36 Peacemaker & B-58 Hustler… 1/48th) I’ve never airbrushed natural metal finish on anything… so you beez the guinee pig. lol

Also, why not make it “in flight” that way no worries about how it sits?

I’d be concerned with the wings drooping… does your kit have appropriate support such as a main-spar?

A real fantastic model. Looks like you put alot of effort in the interieur, but is it worth it, you haven’t glued the other half yet.

Nice work so far, Schall. Is it all straight from the box or do you have any aftermarket stuff to add? I picked up the Cutting Edge corrected cowlings for my kit a while back. Expensive but I think they’re worth it. Also got some Pyn-Up decals for it.

Very nice. I was going to get that kit, but I didn’t have enough money at the time.

Thanks again for all your commets. Had some trouble uploading pictures tonight, but I’ll get them up later.

claudez, that does sound pricey. I think I’ll stick to Model Masters NMFers.

wyoroy, those are the two extra bombs that come with the kit. Which are both Little Man, and Fat Man.

ian lanc, I will try to add some weight to her. By far the hardest thing was setting and glueing the bomb rack, and the long peice you see connected to it. Its in a bent shape, so had to use extra tape in holding it down. And I do think I’ll go with WW2 markings, the “Humpin Honey”

mucker, I’ve been think of bulidng my first Diorama. With her sitting on the run way, with the crew members around her. And then haning her up for flight display.

trexx, I’ll be sticking with model masters NMFers. About the wings, there is these to kinda spar, don’t know what you would call them. That goes inside the wings, and is connect to the main body to support the wings. I haven’t glued them up yet, so I’m waiting to see if that’ll be enough.

T-rex, I’d say it was worth it. I haven’t done anything like this before, so it was fun painting the interieur. But it does add more weight to it.

Ranger2Seven, Everthing is straight from the box.

jacob, this kit can be anywere from 30 up to 40 bucks.

I got the photobucket thing working right, and made some progress. I tryed to get a good shot of the cockpit.

Little Man, Fat Man.

Cart for ether one.

Another test fit, after fixing on the back skid.

With the wings on, this is one heavy bird. And one big bird!

Well after all, it’s called the SUPERfortress!

Neat-O Thanks for the updates.

Keep-A-goin’, looking cool!
