Revell 1/48 B-17G

G’Day Fellas

Just got this kit,

And was wondering if any of you guys could give me the heads up on it.

I will be doing it in overall metal finish and have got the Eduard interior, exterior and engines.

Cheers

Robert

It took me a long time to build mine. If you have any specific questions email me, I’d be glad to help. In the meantime, here are some pics.

Thanks Jamalone,

Email was sent

Cant wait to get started on it.

Your Fortress is a really good build. Nice paint work, how was the fit?

Cheers

Robert

I’ve built about three of these in my life time. All of them many moons ago and with my dads help. I can’t really remember too many problems with it and if there was a big problem dad was the one who probably handled it. I actually have one now too someday to be done. This time my brother can’t throw it out the bedroom window with M 80’s and firecrackers on it. AHHHHH the follies of stupid youth.

Chris

Hey There Medic

I to have brothers (two) 1 is 22 the other is 28 me being the middle one.

They both know not to touch even breath inside my display room or should i say rooms.

How big is this kit wingspan, length, diametre of fuslage?

Cheers

Robert

I have built this kit a number of times and it’s a fun build and have a couple more in the stash. The only dissapointing thing about it is spending hours on detailing the interior than not being able to see it all once the fuselage halves are glued together. The model looks good painted in either the metal or olive drab finish. There’s a good number of decal sheets on the market with excellent nose art, guess that’s why I built so many B-17’s. Have fun with the build. PS if you think this kit is large, get the 1/48th B-29.

Here you might want to check out swannys site.

Hey Scott

I have changed my mind about the Eduard, i think i will go with the Eduard Big Ed set for this aircraft, it have everything in it from the front nose section, cockpit, middle section, rear section, engines, exterior, landing flaps, seatbelts and masks.

I have also got True Details Cockpit set for a few extras.

I am also looking for a Paragon resin bomb bay detail set aswell.

I think that will keep me going…for a while.

Mkhoot,

Great link and some great looking models there aswell, it would bre reat to get my little hands on to a set of Blurprops for this aircraft??

Cheers Guys

Jamalone,

I love the way your wood floors and boxes turned out! Please share how you painted those!!!

No prob. Love to share ideas. I actually stumbled across this method by trial and error. I paint the areas first with model master acryl “wood”. Kind of a light tan color. I then mixed up a small amount of burnt umber oil(windsor and newton) with a small amount of odorless turpenoid and lightly applied that. I kept brushing in one direction, let it dry a little, brushed again, this way you can “work” the grain the way you want it. Really simple!

I like to use burnt sienna in addition to the burnt umber. It adds a bit more “feel” to the wood. It just takes a couple of more days to let the extra coat dry. YIKES! We forgot to mention that oil paints take a very long time to dry completely. If the oil-based colors are not desert dry when you do the next coat, they’ll smear. I’d guess acrylics would dry quicker. HTH

Hey Guys

Would anybody have any interior pics of the B-17G.

Want to know how they look inside as i will be putting a Eduard Big Ed set inside it?

Any type of walkaround would be greatfull.

Will help out a lot.

Thansk Jamalone - I’ll have to give it a try next time I need a wood surface!

If you think the 1/48 B-29. is big get the B-36 Peacemaker[:O]

Wooty,

I’ve built a few of those over the years. Don’t go too overboard detailing the interior, you can’t see any of it after you close it up. The interior of the nose section is visible, but that’s about it. I painted all of mine Olive Drab over light grey. I never had the courage to take on such a large kit with a natural metal finish. The fuselage seams alone would be a bear to fill and sand!

Hey MattSix

Besides a 1/35 MH-60L this is the only build that i have decided to put so much detail into.

I plan on detailing it’s interior a much as possible take photos of it glue halves together and put he photos around the finished kit on its display base!

Anyway it dosent really bother me if no one else cant see it at least i know it is there!

Cheers

Robert

Actually fuse seams werent that bad on top. I chose to have the worst seams on bottom. Lighting really shows them here, but when hung from the ceiling you cant see them. I used superglue and accelerator to fill mine on the top. Bottom wing roots on mine were the worst. Here is a couple of shots of the underbelly. I had to refill and sand and they dissappeared. What do you think of the superchargers on the bottom? Note scratchbuilt retracted gear.
