Returning to modelling after a very long break - on a bit of a “mission”. Too long a story but the build being started is a WingnutWings FE2b late. Things have moved on a lot since I last built boxed kits - especially with regards to materials such as glues etc - so there will be questions.
Thanks - I hope to get started quite soon, once I’ve worked out how techniques have moved on + gathered together bits and pieces as and when I find that I need them.
Wow! You picked a challenging one to start scale modeling. Lots of rigging!
I’ve built four WNW kits, all were wonderful experiences. When you get to rigging, I highly recommend EZ-line and “Bob’s Buckles” (eyelets and micro tubes, Google his website) both make rigging so much easier.
Welcome back to our fun hobby! Enjoy your build and post any questions that come up. Folks here are very helpful.
Welcome back to the hobby and welcome to the forum!
Yes, you can find good answers to your questions here in the relevant places. That’s a good choice for your first build back, too. Wingnut Wings aren’t shake-and-bake kits like Tamiya, say, but they were beautifully engineered. A buddy of mine builds them, and he notes that even the thinnest layer of paint can be enough to interfere with fit, so finely-engineered are they.
I look forward to seeing your build!
Oh, and one more thing-to post pictures, you need to find a host for your photo files. Kalmbach does not allow uploading files to posts. You add the photos to your post by pasting in links back to the storage location. I use a site called Postimage, myself.
Hi - “re-start” scale modelling - I probably built my first Airfix plastic kit circa 1958 'ish [:)]
I posted a first question in “Decals” and hope for a reply to that - but then the very first process I looked at in the WingnutWings assembly instructions raised another issue. I’ll post that in “Aircraft” under FE2b 6992 project - please look.
Oh dear [:(] - a quick scout round the www seems to indicate that “Postimage” may not be the safest or most reliable bits of kit. I’m of a generation which has no sympathy for footballer’s wives and other no-hopers airing their dirty laundry on things like Twattermyweb.com and other such devices designed for the use of LIU’s - I have no interest whatsoever in any of this socialist media and am more than happy to leave it to others.
If this platform will not allow direct loading of images then does anybody have any suggestions at to a route which will not set off alarm bells ?
It was a case of “needs must”. The model will be numbered 6992 - I have had custom decals (transfers) made and hopefully it will be finished in a “flying” format. Reasons will be made clear in due course - though initial take-off of the project is stumbling a bit.
That’s interesting about your experience with Postimage. I haven’t had any issues with the site, including any warnings from my anti-virus software (McAfee) or from the browser’s built-in apps.
I do know, though, that twice-once before I signed up and once shortly after-the owners let their domain registration expire. It was snapped up and held for ransom. The owners chose not to pay, and just registered a new domain. This caused problems with existing links, though. Not major, but it was a nuisance to fix the links, where it was possible to do so.
It’s a bare-bones site, too, feature-wise. For example, when you drill down into an album containing multiple images, and open one of them in the viewer, there’s no scroll feature to page through the images in that file. This was the first such site I had seen, that didn’t have that kind of feature in its viewer. There’s no drag-and-drop functionality, to rearrange photos in an album, either, just sort by name or file date.
But it’s sufficient for my purposes. I don’t use it as primary storage; my files are all stored locally, on my machine and one external drives. I only use it to get links to put into posts around the web.
I may eventually pay for a subscription, once I fill the available space.
While it is a pay site, I use imageshack. I think it runs me around $20 a year for the basic level. Easy to use, no ads and no issues over the last several years since the debacle with PB.
I’m with you on the social media… don’t belong to any of them, and could care less about the insignificant twaddle in somebody’s daily existence.
Photobucket wasn’t bad, in terms of features. It was their disastrous decision to force everyone to move to that $499 a year subscription to link images, that really ruined it.
I started there with the free account, used up the available storage, then took the basic subscription for $49 per year. That was working really well, and I probably would never have used up that space, either.
And I could see if they just dropped their free hosting, that wouldn’t have been that bad. But to remove linking from every account but the most expensive one was a really stupid idea. They’ve since walked it back, and they have new customers, but I don’t know if any of their previous customers have gone back.
Thanks for the advice - but - I have no “experience” of Postimage - I just looked for references to it on the www, and wasn’t hugely impressed by what I saw. Drilling anything in my house means using a Black & Decker electric drill, and the 2nd para above just baffled me !
I’ve just pressed “insert” “image” above and again the screen then displayed has bamboozled me.
Too many warnings about crooks on the www for somebody of my generation to start pessing buttons we don’t understand. Why have they made it so difficult ? [:(]
