ok we are going to try this again.
this is my attempt at a f4f from the marine fighter squadron 211. a detachment of this group was moved from ewa field hawaii to wake island nov-dec 1941. this plane number to my knowledge is fictional.
this was a difficult build from day one. fit problems and human error plagued me throughout. the landing gear took two hours to get together. (five pieces) they still do not set right. but i am through with this kit. the canopy bled under the mask and still looks horrible. so after four months of cursing and redoing here is the build. revell’s 1/48 f4f vmf 211.

criticism is welcome as i have criticised this build since day one. mainly why was i doing it.

Looks great, thanks for the pics.
Congratulations Joe. Perserverance does pay off. Really glad to see you were able to fix the decal problem. It’s a nice looking Wildcat. You did good.
Looks good Joe. Shouldn’t that time frame have the red and white rudder? They were done away with at the same time as the red ball in the star.
Looks good to me Joe. I love a Corps bird.
looks good from my house joe!! all the toasting you did over on the off topic thread may have something to do with the crooked wheels!![:P] i purchased 2 revell models and both had fit problems beyond my rookie skills so i havent purchased one since. later.
therriman, the red white striped rudder was removed when the od over neutral grey was ordered. most were removed but some remained. as the plane number was fictional i went with the new look.
rjk was hoping you would take a gander at this one. i wanted to show all was fine.
salty dog this is the ultimate in revell non fitting, lack of detail, horrible kit line. not recomended for anything else but a lesson in how to build. it is a difficult build to say the least. not sure if the toasts are helping as the painting was difficult with shaking hands.
maddafinga and dave thanks for the kind words.

Glad to see you made it thruogh the troubles you were experiencing, fightinjoe. I’ll bet that your knowledge & kit-building experience have grown immeasurably with this kit. Congratulations, and GOOD FOR YOU for sticking to it and finishing ! I think that many modelers (myself included) have a tendency to put away a model that is causing problems. If you really want to have a collection, learning how to deal with a kit’s shortcomings is necessary. Even if all things didn’t go as you had planned when you first opened the box, what you have learned cannot be gotten from building a flawless model (something I hope I NEVER do). Display it on your shelf with pride, my friend. Well done !
pix thankyou my friend. countless times i took this kit and wanted to make it a wall ornament. not even sure myself why i kept with it.

Hey joe! Looks like your cursing worked wonders. Your F4F turned out very good. Well, that’s what really separates the good modelers from the rest. Give them a bad kit and they’ll still turn out very good.
Looks good, that model is a bear to build in comparison to the Tamiyas and Trumpeters. Great job.
