Hi everyone,
My dio has been published in the January on-line gallery. Please check it out! It portrays the chaos and confusion of the Wermacht as they tried to escape the advancing Allies across ther Rhine at the end of the war. There are some errors ( using helmet insignia) and difficulties were encountered ( using EZ Water which melted half the boat!). Comments/ feedback are most welcome.

I just looked at the January 2008 Gallery and saw your work. Looks great! Can you please post up some more photos in the forum? Preferably some close up shots too!

Definitely please, post a thread on it with more photos. There’s not nearly enough there to see all the rich detail here! From what I can see though it looks beautiful!
I really like it. It is really interesting and keeps you coming back for a second or third look. I like the dios with lots of dimension to them, not just some more flat bases. It really adds a cool feel to them. Good job and congratulations.

Nice dio.I realy like the weathering on the stone work and the vines.One thing wermacht cuff title’s go on the right sleeve SS on the left.
I love the stone work and the whole subject, is the guy helping the wounded soldier wearing glasses? Very nice touch. Having just completed a water scene I can tell you IMHO the best water product out there is the Envirotex lite Resin product. Give it a try next time out.
Well done!I do like the stonework,you did a really good job on it.But being a Stonemason by trade one thing did catch my eye.There are a couple spots where bond was’nt broken,meaning no four corners of a stone should meet or in other words there should’nt be any + signs in the mortar joints.Other than that im quite impressed!

Moonpuppy- no, the guy isn’t wearing glasses- it sure looks like it though on the photo doesn’t it? I have made glasses for a figure before but doesn’t look as good as this does! 
VF8 Panzer- yeah, I know what you mean about breaking bond. The stone walls are actually from the Custom Dioramics ’ Wharf Elements’ kit. It contains identical sections of stone wall so when you put them side by side, the stones don’t match up like they should. I could have rectified this but I didn’t think anyone would notice it!

One question, you mentioned some errors with the insignia on the helmets. What did you mean? I assumed the different insginia meant that there were a number of different units/divisisions/armies caught up in a bottle neck. Is there a time element on some of the insignia?

I believe what was meant is that it was rare after '42 to see insignia on German helmets period…for the Army, this was after Stalingrad; for the SS, after Kharkov…during '45 it was VERY rare…
Really nice work Jezza. What i enjoyed most about this diorama is your imaginative use of the old Tamiya figure poses. I can see figures from the artillery troops set, gun crews (the guy in the front of the boat is from the 37mm anti tank gun???), soldiers at rest set and i think i see some from the observation set too. Goes to show, with good skills these old figures are still way up to scratch. I admire your patience in painting so many figures too.

Thanks for all your encouragement guys! That’s right about the helmet insignia- it wasn’t used by that stage of the war. Since the photos were taken, I’ve gone back and painted them over.
Boomer, good to see another Aussie! I like ‘recycling’ old figures. I really wanted to give them new resin heads too, but with 30+ figures it was going to get expensive!

There seem to a few of us Aussies on here. There was a thread a while back in the General Forum where all the Aussies introduced themselves. More on here than you think! Where in Sydney do you live? I live in Merewether in Newcastle. I will be moving next month to Seymour in Victoria. Scored a job with a civilian company contracted to the ADF. The vehicles i will be working on next will be Landrovers, Unimogs, Bushmasters, Macks, ASLAVS and the mighty Abrams. Am i excited or what?..[:-^][(-D]
