Retired - finally building postworthy stuff!

Hi FSM forum

I am a lifetime modeler and lurker. From my new member profile:

Retiree finally getting around to some modeling projects that I collected kits for throughout my busy career.

Last prolific kit modeling period was my teens. My friends and I built WWII 1/72 aircraft for “run around” wargaming.

Got into N scale railroading in my 30’s and built several layouts. Switched aircraft interest to 1/144 in my '40’s to have an airport train layout, which I completed in my '50’s.

My retirement modeling has been focused on subjects where I can display planes and trains together in a model train (layout) diorama. The planes have only been pre-built or pre-painted so far.

I just completed a fairly significant scratchbuild of paratroopers being dropped from C-47’s with their chutes in various stages of opening. I made two YouTube videos of it. I will post something soon in dioramas or scratchbuilding.

Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you with us.

Also a lifetime modeler. Started building in 1946 (6 years old) and never stopped. Build whatever strikes my fancy at the time and my wallet says OK. Favorites are WWI & WWII planes followed by sailing ships as you can see by my avatar.

…building and finishing models…this what I do most of my free time in retirement as well! Let us know if you need help with anything and please don’t be afraid to ask. I’m still learning…never stop learning!

Welcome to the Forums!

Welcome aboard.

Okay!

Hey I think our train layout in the front room of the Museum is the only one I’ve seen it Texas that is in process of getting an Airport and We have a tongue in cheek airliner in the entry of the " N " scale layout modified with a Cattle-Car-Get it? Kool! And Welcome Aboard. Oh yeah, on our " N " scale layout we have a Sailing Ship Museum and Casino in progress.

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks, Jim (fox). Gosh, you started near the beginning of scale model kits. I have plenty of 1/144 WWII aircraft since Corgi diecast and Japanese prepainted appeared ~1995. No WWI since few prepainted (and also because I would then have to buy WWI trains). Steve

Thanks, HighDesertmodeler!

Thanks Checkmateking02!

Thanks, Bish I like your collection of model build cards.

Thanks, Tanker-Builder I am picturing one of those scratchbuilt comedy models. A Boeing 737 with about 3railroad cattle cars spliced into the fuselage. Ships in N scale or 1/144 is very weakly supported by kitmakers except for sailing ships and submarines.

Thanks, theBaron!

You mean the Group Build badges, ye, i am a bit addicted to doing GB’s, but they are good fun.

I lost my group build badges in the Photobucket fiasco, and the originals were on an old hard drive. The one I really was proud of, the one I liked the most, was my Monogram Mafia badge.
