resin parts

I’m new to aftermarket resin parts, and would appreciate some help from you guys. I read somewhere that resin dust is harmful to the lungs. Hence one should saw off the casting blocks under running water. However I’m afraid running water would flush away chipped off resin bits that I could otherwise crazyglue back, is there a better way to do this? Can I just wet the resin slightly and let the moisture clump the dust?

Thank you,

Terry

I usually put on my respirator, turn on the paint booth and go to sawing. The paint booth will at least keep the dust localized (in fact will suck most if not all of it out of the area -and leaves it in the unit filter) Be sure to wash your hands when you get finished.

Just use a dust mask and clean up afterwards - you will be fine. The dust is mildly toxic and can cause irritation to the lungs.

Instead of using running water, just get a deep container, fill it up with water, and do your sanding under there. Or, if you have a swimming pool…

Keep in mind the exposure level, if you are just doing a few small parts, keep things mildly wet (use a water sprayer) and wet sand. If you are doing large parts with lots of dust, do it outside.

I’ve done mine by applying water a little at a time as I saw. The water clumps the dust and there is no mess.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I’m gonna start building my first resin 'pit tonight, and save a lung while doing it.

btw, it’s a Neomega 1/48 resin cockpit for the Mirage 2000. Will post pics when it’s done.
