ihave a special hobby fairy barracuda and would love to know how to get the resin parts from the stubs.this is my first time with a proper kit so any tips are welcome.ta
Wash the parts well with soapy water to get rid of mold release. ALWAYS wear a mask or resporator when sanding the parts… nasty dust. ALWAYS wet sand to keep the dust to a minimum. I use water when I cut with a razor too. Test fit, test fit and then test fit again.
so you remove them with a razor?
Welcome to the forum. Yes, a razor saw can be used to remove most parts. For some I will work with a Dremel and a sanding drum but be sure to wear that dust respirator and try to do the big stuff outside where dust will not settle on everything. Having a sheet of sandpaper (wet/dry) on the table is helpful along with a cup of water for dust control. Fresh razor knifes, needle files, superglue - medium, accelerator and tweezers. Take your time and test fit everything.
What Marc was referring to was a “razor saw”, a very thin, long chord miniature back saw - see: http://images.google.com.au/images?q=razor+saw&hl=en
A razor saw is really needed to cut through thick pour stubs.
They can be obtained from most hobby ships or about a thousand places online.
Cheers!
Thanks for adding the “saw” to that guys. I would feel horrible if someone got himself all cut up because I can’t type.
Hey, guys. I’ve found that you can remove the parts from the pouring plugs with a hot xacto blade. that way, you can sand down with out fear of breaking something. Is this safe? I’ve only done it once or twice for some hard to reach areas.
thanks everyone thats a great help.
