Resin - clean up...

Hi guys, heres another question, what do you guys to clean up resin parts? (prepare them for painting, and cutting off extra resin)

Any special ways?

Thanks again, Anthony.[:D]

Best thing to use is a razor saw. They are made by exacto and are a zery thin saw blade that attaches to a handle. Cut off the pour plug and then clean it up with a file, some sand paper, and/or sanding sticks (emory boards, i.e. nail files work great).

Prep for painting isn’t that much different than plastic. Was them with some mild soap and water to remove and molresidue and paint away. Some people prime them, I find it is not neccessary, personal preferance.

Thanks…

I use a razor saw to remove the parts from the casting blocks.

I use an x-acto knife and wet sanding to shape and clean-up resin parts. Resin dust is toxic and you should also wear a mask when sanding. I recommend wet sanding to prevent dust.

I use denaturated alcohol to clean resin. Denaturated alcohol is ethyl alcohol with additives and is use to clean grease and oil from machinery. DA can be found with the paint thinners. I let the parts sit in DA for half an hour, and then let them dry without rinsing them.

Acrylics and enamels can be used to paint resin. A primer is not needed, but you can apply one if you like.

Using a primer will help you to find any flaws you might miss.
