Hey All, my first time here, but read FSM all the time. Can any of you help me find some GOOD places to find ADD-ONs for doing more than “out of the box” models? I have about 25 I’ve done so far, and I think I’m ready to go onto the Higher Detail route and one other item… I’ve ALWAYS painted my models BEFORE putting them together, but notice in FSM, most are painted after assembly? Which way is best…and THANKS…in advance…Think I’ll be here often for the pro help!! THANKS AGAIN (OPPPs) I do AIRCRAFT, mostly WWII and 50’s-60’s…also 1/24 Cars…THANKS AGAIN…Flyboy30126
Welcome Flyboy. By add-ons I presume you mean resin & brass?, try the ads in FSM, or the net. As for painting, there are ALWAYS gaps to be filled on kits when they’re assembled, so it has to be afterwards, or how do you hide the filler?
Your next question may be, how to mask up the tranparencies or whatever, use a good tape,(Tamiya is one of the best) baremetal foil or there are paint on masks available. hit the techniques part of the forum, it’s full of tips.
THANKS Pete…and filler…never used it yet…hehehehe…all STOCK out ‘o’ the box so far…but some look pretty good…and with all you folks’ help…maybe soon…models like you do? THANKS AGAIN…Flyboy30126
Heh-heh, he called us pros.[:p] Welcome Flyboy, stick around and you will see some great models and learn how to build 'em. I am trying a new technique i learned hre in aircraft/invasion stripes, working pretty good so far[:)]
Go to techniques and general discussion and you’ll find a lot about add-ons
Hello Flyboy, If you go to http://www.squadron.com/images/MAIN and look up a kit they have available add ons listed below the kits. [:D]
SUPER…and YES…“PRO’S”…at least compaired to me…hehehee…THANKS ALL!!
Hey, Flyboy -
The main thing is to read FSM AND practice the things you see in the articles, which are really quite good, compared to most other model mags.
I’ve lifted my game enormously since subscribing to the mag, done a lot of experimentation, and as a result, do a lot of contract builds. I have more work than I can fit into the time available, and haven’t built a model for myself in nearly 3 years…bummer, but it helps pay the bills.
The FSM articles, with sources at the end, the advertisements in FSM and the net are all very good places to look for aftermarket detail sets. Do you have a good local hobby shop that sells that sort of thing?
Set your sights high, always.
THANKS…and I just renewed my second subscription to the mag…and ordered WARBIRDS…
I’m just getting ready to do a little custom stuff (well to me) like putty the seams…more scratch add-on…and metalizing…I’m starting “Dragon and his tail” so we’ll see…and I’m in Mabelton,GA and there’s a IPMS shop in Marietta. I haven’t been there yet…but I hear the hobby shop is really good. Anyway…TAKE CARE, and as usual THANKS ALL for the help!! I really appreciate it!! Flyboy
