Researching the control surface colors of the XF-92

I see where the XF-92 had silver control surfaces, but I recall that the Micro Scale kit had orange control surfaces? Can this be confirmed?

I seem to recall the 1/48 scale Micro Scale kit having aluminum control surfaces but has been many years since I viewed the instructions.

The aircraft is at the USAF Museum. Check their web site for pictures and/or e-mail them with your question.

I think the XF-92 rolled out in natural metal, but gained a white paint job during its carreer. I have not seen any photos with red control surfaces, but I make no claim to have seen it all! I would say that silver would be correct.

The USAF Museum pictures show the aircraft in all natural metal (1 picture), and several with white paint on most of the aircraft and silver (painted) control surfaces. I believe that the control surfaces were painted silver by the museum so as not to have to maintain the natural metal. I did that kit when it was first released many, many, many years ago. My recollection is that the control surfaces were natural metal when the rest of the aircraft was painted white.

I’ll look, but I doubt if I still have any of the referrence sources.
