I guess this is both an armor and figure question, but I hope its ok to combine into one post here under armor.
My next project will probably be a Tamiay WWII half-track. I am using Testors acrylics. ( I understand other types recommended for figures, but I want to keep that part simple at this stage of my learning.)
I am unclear as to what colors to use for, well, everything(!), but mainly am asking, what colors for:
The armor itself ( straight Olive Drab?)
The armor’s tracks
The figure’s pants.
The figure’s shirts
The figure’s boots
I am a relatively young modeler ( not in age…). I’m not yet up to trying to produce a FSM photo grade project, but hope to do some weathering too with this one, and maybe put it in a simple diorama.
Thanks ahead of time.
Well, as far as I know, The Half Track itself is Olive Drab, In a past issue of FSM (2002, i don’t have the issue on me, otherwise i would tell you how to) there was an article on how to paint Tracks effectivly and accurately, might be worth taking a look at that.
As for the figures, i am not totally sure. In the October issue of FSM there was an article on how to paint figures effectivly, and also, there was a colour chart, which gave the appropiate colours from the manufactures, for the countires around the world.

Hey Dariencharlie
Being that I don’t paint figures, I really can’t help you there but as far as the half - track goes olive drab is the colour to be that is as long as you are building it as an American half - track. The British and Canadians also used the half - track but with a more green coloured camo. As ar as the tracks go, I use testors gun metal as my base coat and then dry brush rust and steel until I get the desired effect. Then I use pencil lead to metalize the whole track unit. This whole procedure works well for any metal track. Don’t forget that many armoured vehicle tracks have rubber blocks and that these should be painted black and will not have a metalized look to them.

For the tracks, refer to this forum’s earlier question about painting tracks (on page 2, at the moment)
Thanks for the help, everyone.
