Just wondering what you guys do when replacing tools on your armor. I did a Stug a little while back and most of you commented the tools were out of scale and not of the best quality. I’m now about to start a Tamiya Leopard 1/35 and was wondering… Do you replace them - if so with what aftermarket and where could I purchase them. Or do you scratch build your own.
Many thanks
Leo
PS: and no I did not choose the kit because it has the same name!!!
Tamiya’s Leopard 2A5 is one of their best modern kits, the tools don’t need to be replaced. Modern German armor is a smaller genre and tools are probably not available as aftermarket items.
More popular WW2 German armor has all sorts of aftermarket items made available, including vehicle hand tools. Tamiya makes a set of generic panzer IV items that includes tools and some of the resin companies do too.
You edited your post to note the older Tamiya Leo 1 kit (your original post specifically stated the 2A5). Different kit, different answer. That kit was surpassed by Italeri’s Leopard 1 kit (circa 1980s), and was one of Italeri’s best kits ever (they haven’t come close since). Chucking money at the old kit is like throwing good money after bad. Better off finding the newer or better kit and just building that one OOB.
i didn’t mean to be confusing. i will take your advise and search for the italeri kit 7 build the Tamiya OOB. I still think I will look for some resin tools as i really hate the tamiya tools
