Removing decals

I am in the process of removing the decals from an Academy 1/48 F-86. The original decals were of typical Academy quality. I had built the kit for my dad and when the decals started to peel up, he tried to fix them with some white glue, probably Elmer’s.

I was able to remove all of the old decals except where they were fixed with the white glue. Does any one have any advise as to how I can remove these without damaging the finish any more? I already know that I will need to repaint.

Thanks for your replies.

Get some decal solvent like Micro Mark’s Micro Sol and paint it on. It might soften the decal enough to get it off. If he did use white glue try putting wet cloths on it and keep them wet. White glue is “normally” water soluble.

What method were you planning on using to remove the paint?

Yea what he said…
