Has anyone used this on the finished models???[?]
I’ve found out some from Eduard and Verlinden (i think there’s also some from anothers manufacturers), and i was thinking on using them on some US Navy aircraft at 1/72 scale.[:)]
I wonder if anyone has used some of them, and what might be the best ones???[^]
I have used remove before flight flags in the past. There are several makers of them but the kind that fold back on themself doesn’t work. What I do is take thin aluminum foil and paint one side red. I then put the decals on the unpainted side and cut out and shape. They are great for safety pins on droptanks, bombs and missiles. Check references before using them. As an example some missiles use more than one pin to safety them on the ground.
Eduard makes some great looking photoetched ones that are already pre-colored. Just cut them off the fret and put it them on. They are made in 72nd, 48th, and 32nd.
There are some of those already “painted” tags on ebay right now, if you want to check out them out.

Does anyone has a template or can tell me what’s the right dimensions and lettering???
I’m thinking on using a “regular” printer and a standard sheet of paper, and try to get them printed on both sides of the paper…

I have never tried printing them myself but good luck trying to get both sides to line up. As for dimensions they are usually about 3 inches wide but the length is not standard. They are usually about 2-3 feet long.
They varied from 6 inches to 24 inches in length and 1 to 3 inches wide, depending on what they were used for. Older RBF flage were made of cloth or canvas material. In later years they started making them out of plastic, which lasted longer, if not subjected to extreme heat. Lettering was not standard and varied from flag to flag. Most were attatched by a length of stranded cable to a safety pin or safety strut. And they would get dirty fast.
Also, to add to what Berny13 said, they are not always Insignia Red either. Some plastic ones have an “orangey” tint to them, most are faded, some almost a rosey pink and almost all are tattered on the end…at least on the Marine Air side of the biz.

Here are some of the flags I have. The bottom one is 3 x 36, the next is 3 x 24, and the top one is 2 x 42. The top one is also one that is made of cloth and was an ordinance flag. I am pretty sure the font is Helvetica.

monogram back in the 80’s had the remove before flight flags on their decal sets on a few of their kits, and another place to put the flags are on landing gear struts they are most likely place on the extension/retraction actuators and sometime on door actuators, also on the ejection seats to show that they are safed for maintenance in the cockpits, and on throttle handle covers, and the easiest and most seen are the weapons pylons, bombs, missiles, and external fuel tanks the flags are at the pylon safing station inbetween the anti-sway braces on the left hand side of the pylons
