A platoon of Pershings from 9th Armored Division’s 14th Tank Battalion was involved in the capture of the Ludendorf Bridge over the Rhine River at Remagen in March 1945. Does anybody know if they carried bumper codes at that time, and if so what they were? Obviously 9^-14^ on the higher unit side if carried, but what company, platoon & vehicle numbers? B-12, A-23, etc. ?
The vehicle in this video is purported to be an actual surviving veteran of the Remagen operation, a T26E3 from Lt. John Grimball’s platoon (company “A”), at the Wright Museum. A placard placed on the vehicle stated that this Pershing was the first tank across the Remagen bridge;
