I think here is a brand new Revell/Monogram SBD preparing for it’s maiden flight. I will do a little weathering here and there. It’s intermediate blue over light grey.
I didn’t use the kit decals, I had some in the spares box, so I just applied some generic markings. Hope you like. All hand brushed, then gloss cleared for decals, then sprayed flat dullcoat to seal them.
Nice job on a classic. Does it still feature the working dive flaps and trapeze for the bomb release?
Yep sure does. Although the actuator lever in the kit for the bomb takes away from it’s authenticity, the actual SBD did have the trapeze to swing the bomb away.
The kit also still has the the movable dive flaps, tail hook, and rear machine gun. It even has “copyright 1960” still molded into the lower wing. Classic Monogram
Although it’s nowhere near the quality kit that doogsATX is building, but it was pure fun[cwby]

Looks beautiful to me! My favorite part about your whole post (aside from the model itself of course) was the part where you said it was pure fun. It was refreshing to hear that. I think all too often we hear about how someone made themselves “miserable” through their self-imposed torture of getting every single aftermarket parts and conducting major surgery. It was a breath of fresh air to hear someone say flat out that they had lots of fun building a simple kit. It just takes me back to the reason why got into this hobby especially when we were kids.

Well done! One more example to show that these classic kits can be built into nice models. Congrats on making it through drilling out the dive brakes, too! That’s a real opportunity for some quiet meditation, as you repeat the motions over and over and over… [:)]
I’ve got 2 of these in progress on the bench right now, as a matter of fact.

Looks great! I had to stop on the AM SBD2 Dauntless. It had major fit issues with the fuselage attatching to the lower wing. Very disappointing or my usual ineptitude.

sometimes its nice to build one for fun… no extras… I’m currently building a 1962 Hawk ,P-51D Mustang, nasty to nill interior details, the exterior is pretty sweet for 1962, combination of recessed and raised lines… I did spend a bit on the cockpit to dress it up a bit… not crazy time… nice easy build…
