Red Storm on the Reich/Battle for Berlin GB - heads up

Hey guys, just thought I’d give everyone some advanced warning.

I had been wanting to host a “Red Storm on the Reich” GB focusing on the final months of the war as the Soviet armies steamrollered across Poland, Czechoslovakia, Austria and of course Germany. [8D]

Spectre was planning to host a “Battle for Berlin” GB and since our subjects are so similar he proposed combining the two GBs, which sounded like a great idea to me. [tup]

Think about the possibilities, Panthers, King Tigers, StuGs, JagdPanthers, JagdTigers, JS-2, T-34/85, SU-152 and so forth. This would also include war weary Panther As, PzKpfw.IVs and others, including one last surviving Elefant in the defense of Berlin.

Details to follow but it would take place in the latter half of the year. Anyway, just wanted to give everone a heads up so they can plan their GB participation for the next 6 months or so. [:)]

Can you believe it is June, the latter half of the year is here already!

Sounds like a cool idea to me, Scott! Combining the 2 GB’s is very smart. [tup]

I’ll be there, as usual. [;)]

Sounds like a good one to me, I’ll be there!

(probably ynot finishing on time either) [:-^]

[(-D] That is so me! I won’t commit, because I have ideas for another GB during that time and I’d never be able to complete both. I will watch with interest though. Hmmmm, maybe I could? We’ll see. Never say never.

Sound definitaly Sweetness to me would a SU-100 work for this if not I have a Pzfk IV but I’m realy leaning to start that soon so I my have to visit the haby shop for this GB[:D]

Oh ya I’ve got a stug III.

I’m definetly in, let’s see what I got.

Dragon’s T-34 in german outfit, nope, all the t-34 were recapture in the battle of berlin, and I’m saving it for a winter dio.

I could get panther kit by hasegawa, haven’t got one of those,

Or a Trumpeter KV-1, also haven’t got one.

I’ll think about it.

That should work, though I’ve seen more IS-152 in pictures.

I have a Panther, a King tiger and a Jadgpanter any of those fit WITHOUT zimmerit?

Hmmm…

I do have lots to chose from in 1:72…Tempting

IS-2, IS-3 or a German offering…

Choices, choices!

Cheers

Mike

Sure. All of those could as long as they were built post Sept. 1944 when zimmerit was discontinued. Unless the Jagdpanther was an Early and the King Tiger had the porsche suspension, then they would need zimmerit. What is the Panther? Assuming it’s a late G as in Tamiya’s 1/48 series which I know you build, then it can go sans zimmerit.

yeah all Tamiya, I can get zim for the king and the panther but the Jadgpanther I would have to goober up. {either burn in or glob on, don’t think I am ready for that yet., I guess I could ALWAYS do a Russian Tank [swg]

I will be in with DML T-34/85 w/bedspring armor…should be fun,Spectre had a real nice badge for the campaign

AHHHH!!! I’m so wanting to join this GB when it starts!! I just hope my workload drops so I can have time to build again! If I do I have several kits in the stash that would be appropo!! OR give me an excuse to buy Tamiya’s new JS-II!!

Hey Buffle, if you do the Tamiya JS-II, I’ll do the JS-III. [:-,]

OOOOOOO[:O][:O][:O]…this one sounds juicy, definately count me in!!![tup]

I’ve been looking for an excuse to pick up Tamiya’s JS-III for a while now…

Sounds like fun, don’t count me in for sure yet but it’s probable that I’ll be joining.

Chris,

i’m in the same boat as townsy. I’d like to do DML’s jagdtiger, one of their older molds i think, seeing as the tracks require like 6 parts per link[BH]… not cool. But i’ll soldier thru it if i join.

Thanks for the update!

Oh yeah dupes, It’ll be a 1-2 JS knockout! Wait, did JS-IIIs actually participate in the Battle of Berlin? I thought they were first seen during the victory parade after VE day. Or maybe that was the first time they were seen by the rest of the Allies?!? Yeah, I’m going with that!! All I know is I don’t have a JS-II on my shelf so I’m building either the DML I have in the stash or picking up the new Tamiya release.

Actually I have no T-34/85s on my shelf either!! Hmmmm…could turn out to be a double build![:)] AHH what the heck am I talking about!!![XX] I can barely finish one kit, let alone two![sigh]

You are right. They arrived too late to participate in any fighting and were paraded to show them off.

When I was researching info to build my Trumpeter 1:72 IS-3M “Pike”, I found that they indeed did not see action during WW2 against the Germans at very least. They may have seen service in Manchuria against the Japanese though. But I found no info on that either.

cheers

Mike
