The finishing on my A-6E Intruder call for the edges of the landing gear bay doors to be painted red. (I assume this is done for on-deck safety?) My kit is a 1/72nd scale version and the doors a a bit small. My first attempt, using the tiniest brush I had, was less than successful. (It sucked!) I tried to be as careful as possible but still ended up with a kind of blotchy mess. The doors are now repainted and I think I will try gloss coating them, (MM Glosscoat) and then maybe try an acrylic paint for the edges as mistakes can be wiped off.
Any other suggestions on how some of you re-create this effect?
Ha! I had to correct my post as I realized I spelled it as navel! Bet I would have had dozens of sailors and navy pilots at my door to kick my bottom!
I think I’ve read that some people use a red sharpie to outline the edges. I plan on trying that on my next navel naval [:D] aircraft build.
I use a small brush with little paint on it and multiple careful passes.
I like using Testors felt-tipped paint markers. A cotton swab with a little thinner can be used to clean up any mistakes.

Try thinning the paint a little, with some Future, and let it flow aroound the edges. Acrylics thinned with Future (50:50) brush on much better than when thinned with solvent, plus, you get a gloss coat, to boot.

Thanks everyone for the ideas! I think I’ll give the red Sharpie a try on my Naval planes and save the other colors for my navel!
A sharpie it is! Unfortunatly, I have to run to Walmart to get one as the one i got is dried up!
Just wanted to thank you for the red sharpie suggestion! Worked great? My forehead is still stinging though from when I slapped it and said, “Why didn’t I think of that?”
If I did that I would have beaten myself to death a long time ago.
