Red Dawn Diorama thoughts

So, I was thinking to myself the other night about a scene from red dawn. It was the part where they are crawling pass the hulls of the burnt out M42 Duster and what looks like APC’s and half tracks. Then I thought to myself, how cool would it have been if the movie actualy showed the battle, I also thought what would the battle have been like, the paratoops had no heavy armor, and only RPGs and APC’s, would they have had air support, this being thought of because of the M42 duster.

What do you guys think would of happened if they had shown that scene?

The Soviet paratroopers would have had BMD Airborne Infantry Fighting Vehicles (seen at the roadblock sequence) and ASU-85 assault guns. Their antitank weaponry would include various RPGs, SPG-9 Recoilless Rifles, and ATGMs such as AT-3 Saggers, AT-4 Spigots, or AT-7 Saxhorns. Potentially by night fall some helicopter gunships such as Hind Ds could have been flown in to a captured airfield by AN-24s and been made operational. I personally would have loved that sequence of battle in the movie

I thought it would of been cool, to see an abrams tank assault along with some m60’s, except all the wreckage in the field seemed to be light armor and nothing heavy

Were there any love scenes in the movie?

No, why do you ask?

Why do you think? Dio possibilities…

Oh I see, No I dont remember any, but there was alot of good action scenes, and then there were some that left it to the imagination of what happened.

A good what if movie with love scenes is “Tomorrow When the War Began”

I’ll check into that—still looking for some figs modeled after the movie, “Inglorious Bastards”…

Give it a few years and there will be

Its been a few years…

Then start writing angry letters to every resin company, or make your own, Im sure your very capable of doing it given your expertise

Yeah, I could do it but I’d rather continue to be lazy and pay good money for 'em when they come out…

haha, I could see that being a good idea, but hell your good at this stuff, you should produce some and sell them

I suppose it would be possible to take parts from different figure sets, some A and B epoxy and come up with some Wolverine figures.

If someone marketed a resin “Red Dawn” figure set they might run into some licensing issues with MGM. Of course the set could be called "The Timber Wolf resistance. Most people would figure it out.

Im more interested with a diorama depicting the U.S. army trying to retake the town

WOLVERINES!

How would Hinds be brought in by An-24s? they won’t fit unless they’re turned into small parts and pices.

I know thats what im thinking, but they would of had air support, i mean logically they would of air dropped onto an airport and taken it, landed some armor while awaiting fr the main army groups to come from alaska. The again, helicopters flying from cuba, and there south american countries allied with the soviet union could of easily landed and refueled at newly captured airfields.

Sorry, I was thinking the AN-124 Condor, not the AN-24 Coke

Yes but you are talking a time issue here. Helicopter Gunships flying at well under 200 knots would take a long time to reach Colorado from any FOB in Mexico even with refueling points set up in between. The Soviet airborne would have had to have seized an airfield capable of landing the AN-124s to get the Hinds delivered shortly afterwards. They then have to be rolled off the transports, prepped for flight operations, and then been able to launch. Not a short quick process.
