Recruiting for a Guadalcanal Campaign Group Build

I am looking for anyone who be interested in joining in this Group Build. It will run from August of this year to February of next year to mirror the dates of the actual battles from landing until declared secure. Any land vehicle utilized during any the associated battles are acceptable- they just need to be marked as during this campaign. I know the choices on AFVs are limited, but softskins/artillery are very welcome as well. If you are interested, come sign up over on the GB forum.

I’m working on a diorama about the battle of the Tenaru River or sometimes called alligator creek. The Marines were on one side of the river and dug in knowing that a Japanese attack was short coming. The Marines cut down the charging Japanese.

I’d like to join this group if you are interested.

Thanks,

Mac

Yes, please do join! I will add you to the list over on the GB forum! I am familiar with this batle. The first major engaement on Guadalcanal between the Japanese and the Marines. What scale is your diorama?

You are added on to the list of participants MAC.

Would love to oneday build something out of the Pacific, specifically an Amtrack, but too many other projects on the bench.

Yes, those are really eye catching kits. I have built the LVT-4 and the LVT(A)-1 so far. I still have the LVT-2 and LVT(A)-4 to do…

C’mon Tigerman… those amtracks are calling…[}:)]

I can’t hear you…LOL

Yes, Italeri has quite a few variants and reasonably priced. I would really like too, but I really want to finish up a couple of WIP’s before breaking open a new kit.

I don’t believe amtracks were used on Guadalcanal…at least not during the initial assault…I think Tarawa was their baptism of fire…

The LVT-1 (not to be confused with the LVT(A)-1) was used at Guadalcanal but for logistics only, not for transporting men. The first use of LVT’s for assualt was at Tarawa.

I don’t think anyone makes a model of the LVT-1 but I could be wrong.

Here’s two pictures of an LVT-1:
