This project has been going on for some time, last week it looked as though it may have to be called off due to weather. But yesterday evening a Do 17 that crashed off the coast of England during the BoB was finally recovered. Its believed to be the only one of its kind still in existence and will been sent for major restoration. Hopefully in a few years we will get to see this in a museum.
Today they have recovered the engines and they sill have to get one end of a wing which came off during the lift.
It will be interesting to learn if they can find anything out about the plane’s history and crew. Some of the best books I’ve read lately have been Finding the Few and Finding the Foe. The background on salvaged aircraft is often fascinating.
I read somewhere else, can’t find the page now, that the two dead crew were washed up. It looks as if one was washed up onto the UK shore the other in Holland.
