Recommendations for a 1/72 Frogfoot?

Recommendations for a 1/72 Frogfoot? Doing the “What If A-10” GB and kinda want to get the sister ship from Russia. Plus, just read the article in the latest issue of “Combat Aircraft” about the Frogfoots of the Georgian AF.

Maybe a captured “cold war” variant used on US Navy carriers to see what it can do??

I know of two 1/72 frogfoots. One is from Revell, it looks nice, has engraved panel lines and a lot of arnament options. But it supposed to be very inaccurate, to small etc.
The other is from KP, its cheap, has raised panel lines (they’re OK, not overdone), a lot of weapons. The cockpit and landing gear lack a lot of detail, but the dimensions are good. I have build the KP kit and the fit is OK (considering it’s age etc.)

Since you are going to build a what-if, I would use whatever is cheaper/you can find more easily.

Any good 1/48 kits for this bird. I love the look of it.

Thanks,

Dan

if would you like a frogfoot in 1/48 take a look here (at the feb. 16 section of what’s new)

It seems that the OEZ kit is the way to go in 1/48,
I believe that it has also been released under the KP label.

Many thanks and sorry Rocky I didn’t mean to hijack the post! :o)

No sweat, Dan.

Thanks for the tips guys. Hey Remco, do you know how inaccurate the Revell kit is suppose to be? I’ve tried to find reviews for it and nobody seems to have built one (or at least written about it).

Or I need to use a better search engine? [banghead] And so it goes…

I think I have one lying around, I’ll have a look and measure it.

I couldn’t find my old Revell su-25. But I remember that it is underscaled (this really shows if you compare it with an KP su-25) and the nose has an incorrect round shape.
The window in the nose (with the laser designator behind it) also is round, it should be flat at the bottom. Secondly, the window isn’t a window in the Revell kit, it 's a dent in the nose.
Those are the major flaws that I can remember, I hope it helps.

P.S.
for a full review, check http://www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/portland/971/Reviews/soviet/su-25.htm

There’s also the Italeri kit, which no one has mentioned. It is much more detailed than the KP one, which builds up fairly well. Haven’t seen the Revell one, so I can’t comment on it. The Italeri kit is of Russian origin (Zvezda), and looks great to my eyes. Haven’t measured anything, so I can’t tell you if it is 100% accurate or not, but it looks awfully good. Zvezda also releases the kit under their own label, along with the Su-39 variant. Haven’t seen the plastic inside the Su-39 box, so I don’t know if it can be built as a two-seat Su-25UB or not. Kopro has a -UB in their line-up, and I remember seeing another one in Squadron Mail Order a couple of years ago.

Hope this helps
