Anybody made any kits from Realspace? I am thinking in particular of their VOYAGER kit. Interested because it was launched the day my son was born
I had a Realspace 1/96 resin kit of an Apollo Comand and Service module that was ment to replace the one included in the Revell Saturn V kit. I had never built it and ended up selling it on ebay but the kit itself was very nice. Fine engraving and detail on the resin pieces and I believe Realspace has a good reputation for its products over all.
I bought the 1/96 Block 2 CSM with Boost protective cover from Realspace. The BPC was vacuum formed and I screwed it up cutting it out. I dropped Glen an e-mail to see if I could purchase another one and he just sent me another one at no cost. The second time was a charm!
I’ll buy more from them just for that reasaon alone. Oh yeah, the Block 2 CSM turned out good too[bow]
Didn’t build voyager, but I have built Glenn’s Soyuz and his Mercury rocket kits, and have a few of his satellites in the basement unbuilt, because I enjoyed the first two build-ups.
The kits are multimedia, so experience with PE and resin and bonding items of different media is important. That said, I can’t think of a better way to get a start in multimedia kits than something like Glenn’s Mercury kit – basically a tube with some aftermarket add-ons. Builds up awfully cute too – I just built it as-is, for a friend who is a big fan of the US space program – though it offers endless superdetailing opps.
Write to Glenn about it if you have questions. He will surely give you the straight poop on his kits.
I have Glenn’s Proton Phobos . I can vouch for Glenn’s work. He’s both a good artist AND businessman. Uncommon in the garage kit business.
I wrote Glenn a few e-mails and asked some questions about his products. He was prompt and professional. I ended up ordering his Gemini detail set.
I can wholeheartedly recomend Glenn and Realspace. I’ve just placed another order with him…his products are first-rate.
You will need some experience with mixed-media kits but that is not usually a problem and Glenn is super helpful.
I used his 1/144th Apollo spacecraft replacement on my Saturn V I built a couple of weeks ago. Looks great…
I have used some of thier Space Shuttle parts like the engines and the payload bay detail set along with thier decals. Great quality with ease of use. Highly recommended!
