Frankly, I like to use Testor’s Model Master Camouflage Gray (# 1933, FS 36622) instead of pure white. It’s about as light a gray you can get. Then you can add some black (Always add much less than you think is enough) to it to darken it as a wash in the recesses, and use pure white to drybrush highlighted areas. Honestly, I never use straight white on a vehicle unless it’s a special thing. I use light gray out of the bottle, wash with a brownish color, and drybrush with straight white. Plus gray usually covers better, white has a tendency to be translucent.
