hi guys, readin the several forums over and over i didn’t read anything about making real rust to put on your models , here’s a tip i used for several years now : take a (do not know what it calls) full ‘sort of metal’ sponge( the sort that can be used for cleaning stoves) dip it in some water to make it wet , squeez the excess water out and lay it in a tray outside in all weather. After time (can take some weeks) the sponge is falling apart and what is left over is real powder rust. I think it depends on what humidity the weather is that have a effect on the colour of rust ( have made rust in the winter and summer and they have a different colour [:p] , from almoust black to light brown). To put it on your armour , make a past with the rust and matt varnish and aply it where you like it ( it works great and it’s real [:D]), hope this whill help. greating from belgium

Fabio, i was thinking about trying that with twist to speed things up. What about adding a small amount of table salt to the mix? I think it would speed the rusting and wouldn’t leave too much residue if you don’t use too much.

Eric I had some bad experience using salt in general due to its hygroscopic charateristics. It remains alwais there absorbing and releasing humidity depending on ambient conditionswith the risk to spoil my efforts. So in my point of view is better to stay away from salt unless you’re not absolutely sure you can get rid of it…

The rust colour is caused by real oxidation(real rust?) so it is very realistic.
Now this is the stuff I need to know and use!! Fabio, FSM should pay you and do a book on stuff like this! Pictures of finished models and dioramas are great, but these are the things we need to get us there… Thanks… G.L.

Well wipw, it dosen’t mean green lantern, and I can’t print here what my wife calls it (and me) but gee el will do. I’m so tempted to let my humor run wild in some of these forum replies; as in what color is a french fighter plane interior? frog green and burnt metal. But back to modeling. I’m printing some of fabio’s stuff I got a russian diorama in my head that will require bushes and stuff. gl
