what kind of dirt do u use and do u mix it with water? i saw these tanks with real mud and it looks “real” how do i do it?[:(]

I’ve used dirt from the backyard, the garden, wherever. I’ve just made sure that it’s “natural” dirt, not potting soil or anything like that. I sift it to get rid of the big stuff like stones and such. Then I mix it up with some water, grab some brushes and go to town. Plan to have some “crap” brushes when you’re done, however. (Use cheapies! [:p])

Have you tried using workable fixative (3M product) on your mud? Works pretty good.

On my 1/16th Tamiya Tiger I, I drive that sucker around the garden - then just don’t clean it afterwards. Looks wunderbar!

To me, the best that has worked is a mix of white glue with brown acrylic (you can get the right dirt tone by adding red, white and black always acrylic)… to this add some flour and tea leaves…
After you have mix all thorugh this, just spatter is on your model and on the base… Before it dryes completely sprinkle more tea leaves (less on the model and much more on the base)… You can also add some salt or coffee on the base to simulate pebbles…
The best thing is that you find all of this in your kitchen, and if you mess it, you can fix it completely with plane water…
When it dryes completely, it gets hard as a rock…
