Looks like fun. I’ll have to look into this further. Anyone been there before, or live near there?
I went there last year. Even though it was cold and raining, it didn’t keep me away. They have some great vendors and the biggest plus is that you can get near the aircraft. For me that was my third time there and probally wont me my last. Bryan
Hi all,
I’ve been going to that air show since 1994. For the past three or so years, my wife and I have volunteered to help work the show. Mostly we’ve been helping out at admissions.
The show is fantastic and I highly recommend it. If you can, try to get to the Friday show. It’s less crowded, and you get to see many planes arrive throughout the day.
Regards,
Thanks for the info… sounds like an awesome show.
I was there the past two years (my folks live nearby and it’s a good time to fly in for a visit), and it was awesome! Yeah, the rain kept most of the planes from flying the Saturday I was there last year, but it was still well worth going. Sadly, I can’t make it this year or next year, our school district calendar changed and we have school until the week after [:(]
But Elmendorf AFB here hosts Arctic Thunder every summer, which totally rocks! Not many WWII warbirds, but lots of modern demos. Anyone coming up for that? [:D]
I was there I think 3 years ago. Great show, show my first flying B17 there, and a great flyby of P-51, P40, & spitfire in formation. The airforce was there with an A-10 & a helicopter. You can get upclose to the planes, they also had a reenactment with a recreated french town. Light armor vechiles, Met Tex Hill of the AVG, the list just goes on. Great time, the only down side was eating…Vendors in van and very long lines! So I suggest eating off hours or bring some food along. Highly recommended.
This may sound like an odd question, but are there any campsites in the area? Like for tent camping mind you… not like RV parks.
Campgrounds… that’s an interesting question. My Dad and I used to do alotta camping at events like this, mostly auto races but some airshows too. Last time we did that at an airshow was Geneseo… but that was long ago and I dunno if they still allow it or not. I really miss it actually…
Anyhoo, I’ll ask Butz if he has more info in general or specifically on campgrounds. He may be going again this year; he’s made a friend in a 78th FG pilot from WWII who is now part of the family by way of marriage. (I think that’s how it goes…) Anyhoo, this fellow goes to the Reading show every year. I guess two crew members from the Enola Gay are slated to be there as well… Paul Tibbets and I dunno who the other is.
Maybe I can swing a trip this year…
Fade to Black…
Hey all,
Steve-O, as for the campgrounds, I will check into that. I am sure looking forward to going.
Hopefully my schedule and the aviation Gods are on my side. Just got an email from Mr Hewitt and he is looking forward to me being there.
Since Dad is retarded, I mean retired now, I am sure he would not mind another body!!
Tibbets will be there as well as for “Dutch” Vanderkurk(sp) I believe. Anywho he was the radio operator on the Enola Gay.
Mmmm come to think of it, I will have to bring my photo of Enola gay to have them sign it for me.
O well, I’ll get more info for you guys in the next few days…
Flaps up, Mike
Mr. Tibbets… he’s from here in my neck of the woods. I’d appreciate any info you can get on campsites… that was what I had in mind Steve, roping my pops into going and getting a camping trip out of it too.
