I’m currently re reading Dune, and comparing it to both movies. Each movie has variations from the original novel.

Agreed on the variations. But as much as I love the look of the 1984 movie, these recent Dune movies are the best by far. And even though I don’t recall enjoying Dune: Messiah when I first read it back in 1986, it is next up on my reading list (after I finish Project Hail Mary) given that the third Dune movie will reportedly be essentially that novel, with some of Children of Dune in there as well. I’ve never read Children of Dune, so I’ll probably pick that one up as well.

I’m reading “The Boat That Wouldn’t Float” by Farley Mowat in soft cover for some fiction and on my Kindle I’m reading “Condition Red - Destroyer Action in the South Pacific” by Fredrick Bell.
I’ve been reading Spearhead: An American Tank Gunner, His Enemy, and a Collision of Lives in World War II, by Adam Makos. So far a very interesting book.

Neil Young Special Deluxe A Memoir Of Life & Cars - nonfiction
Interesting read if you’re into cars. Into old cars. Even if you don’t like Neil Young’s music. I skipped over the pages with lyrics and song writing and studio time. I like reading about drug fueled stories of celebrity autobiographies and this one had several of these.
The last chapter described dropping a hybrid engine system into one of his old classics. The success and failures of this project and the social political tour with this vehicle.

Finished, The Parade by Dave Eggers - fiction (science fiction)
Western civilian contractors overseas have to build a highway between a northern city and southern city immediately after a 10 year civil war has been settled. The machine they use was interesting enough that I want to build it in 1/35 scale sometime in the future.
Next up is, The Katipunan and the Revolution, Memoirs of a General by Santiago V. Alvarez - nonfiction
Just finished Secret of Secrets. If you’re a Dan Brown fan, it’s a definite must read.

Consistent with my modeling interest lately, I recently pulled the following novel from the bookshelf. Overall not a bad read although the author’s effort to create the tragic character is a bit annoying; but as the days pass since I finished the book, it seems to be gaining a more favorable impression in my mind. In brief, the book is a mix of mostly fiction but with some historical facts blended in to tell the story of the clipper ship Sea Witch while populating the narrative with a number of fictional composite characters drawn from the clipper ship era. This novel was first published in 1933 with the illustrated edition coming out in 1944 during WWII. Of particular interest in this edition is the printed statement on the front pages stating the book was “manufactured in accordance with paper conservation orders of the War Production Board.” The book was a birthday gift from my dad to his brother in 1946, when at that time my uncle was serving in Tsingtao, China with the 6th Marines.
