Well today is a small milestone for me. It marks the 229th. time I have been sniped by 50 cents on a kit on eBay. I have a couple of questions.
Is the Revell F102 Delta Dagger as rare as it seems really? and 2, Does anyone know of an online store that has them priced reasonably.
I mean, it’s a nice kit, but it’s not a Tamya or Trumpeter… I’ve been trying to snag one for a couple of years now and it seems like they come in in spurts. one week there will be like 20 of them on eBay and the next week zip… I won’t even go into that Encore kit…
Has anyone else had a pet peeve kit that they just couldn’t nail down.
I chased after the original Ka-8 boxing of the Hasegawa F-4G for 3 years, finally got one after the new kit re-release (with “newer” markings),it was at a show for $50, the guy was nice enough to sell it to me towards the end of the vending time for $25
I had one box of Heller “Hi Tech” weapons, and wanted more for years, also, one day, Anne called me from a shop in Illinois that had 3 boxes, dented, for less than half of what they cost new
now, I have only one “need to find” kit,the Hasegawa RF-4EJ Kai kit,the aircraft that still looks like a fighter, but got the Kai mod and the upgrades to handle Recce pods, that kit supposedly includes resin Recce pods (or 1 pod)
Rex
I meant, finally got the old kit when the new kit came out, sorry for my wording
Yes the RM kit of the F-102A is rare and has been OOP for about ten years. Encore recently released the F-102 RM kit with resin parts at about three times the cost. It is from the original mold with the Case XX wing. I still have three of the old RM F-102A kits, two with the Case X and one with the Case XX wing. One with the Case X wing, I am converting to a TF-102A.
If you remember RM kits of the A-6E and EA-6A were going for four and five times the original price on e-bay. Then Revell re poped them and I’ll bet they are being picked up by people that are waiting for them to be in high demand again.
I would love for RM to release all of their kits every five years or so as most are very nice and with a little TLC can be built into show stoppers.
Yeh, I figured the Encore kit was from the orginal molds by the look of it. If you ever decide to sell one of those F102s let me know. lol. BTW. The carpet monster ALMOST got the forward stabilizer fin from one of those AIM9Ds you sent me. Luckily 14 year olds have VERY good eyes… I have them all put together and waiting for me to get around to painting them. I am going to make sure the RAF AIM9s used the same colors as the US ones.
I almost had it this time though. lol. I had bid $25.03 (plus shipping). There was only one other bidder. I tried to make sure I got it by adding another $1.30 at the end but he must have got the click in a half second before I did. Oh well, I’m watching some more. Eventually I have to get lucky. I’m in no rush to snag one, but it would be nice to have it ready so I can do it and an F106 simultaneously. I have like 3 group builds I am working on now so it will be a while before I get to the 106 anyways.
Yeh. I’m not picky at this point. I can live without the resin. The regular old Revell kits sometimes start at around $9.00 than they always shoot up right at the end of the auction. Sometimes I stay up until 3-4AM waiting for an auction to end. Never seems to work though. lol
These are the two kits I am hunting for. Maybe I will get lucky and someone will have a bagged kit on eBay some time. The encore model is just too way out there for price. I would not pay that much for any 1/48 fighter. Not for essentially a repop with some extras added.
OH Yes!!! I have been trying to get a 1/72 scale YF-23 Black Widow ATF. I have lost out on something like 7-8 usually by $1.00 or less. I look just about everyday. The kit was made by only 3 companies DML, Testors, and Italeri (yes I know that the later 2 are one and the same now!). Most of the bids I lose on evilbay don’t really get to me…but these have hurt everytime.
As much as I want it there is a limit to what I will spend! Not to mention I have won a couple kits at pretty high prices due to their “rare” nature, only to have the same kit sell for way less.
I saw one of those YF12 kits last night. I don’t remember if it was 1/48 or 1/72, but it was a Testors kit. I think it’s gone now though. I did find another one however, I’ll give you a link.
I picked up this Monogram F-102 a couple of weeks ago on a site called ioffer.com for 25 bucks. That’s probably not a bad price for the old kit. I only saw one, however. It looks like it is all there although it wasn’t sealed. I plan to build a TF out of it some day. I’ve got another of the same model that’s under construction.
Hang in there - one is bound to show up someday. [:^)]
You guys are pretty far out in left field when it comes to the Encore F-102. The resin and photoetch more than make up for the added price. The decal sheet alone is worth $15 by itself. However, I found the Century Series version last September in Austin for $12. It’s not THAT rare but don’t count on it being re-released anytime soon with the Encore release out there.
I haven’t seen the resin or PE with it, so I’ll take your word for it. But even with it, it’s kind of pricey. As for the century series kit, compared to the F102 kit the F106 is practically flooding the eBay sellers. lol. I’ll snag one of the century series kits eventually. I saw your kit when you had the other thread on the build. Great work on both. Are they going to have you finish up the other one eventually, or just keep it naked?
Sorry, didn’t know you meant the 1/72nd scale kit. Yes the 1/48th kit came with an extra spue with three pods on it. So I guess the 1/72nd kit did have an extra resin pod instead.
