RAF Mustang III WIP

Howdy

Kinda bored this morning and thought I’d post a couple of photo’s of my work in progress. This is Tamiya’s North American RAF Mustang III. This is my 5th plane to date.

The Model is Airbrushed with Model Master Enamals. RAF Dark Green and RAF Ocean Grey over RAF Medium Sea Grey. The hub and Id band are Flat white.

So far the airbrushing is going pretty smoothly… (I’m not the best at it.)

Thanks for looking

Delbert

sure looks good to me. stangs look good in those RAF colors.

Looks great from here. What kind of airbrush are you using?

I just put the second color onto my F6F-3. My weekend build is going to be interrupted by a golf outing with my middle son. He beat me Wednesday and I need a rematch (not sure my back does??) I’ve been airbrushing since the middle 70’s and I still fight with mine all the time. Beats those nasty rattle cans. I was also pleased to see that at least someone else was still man enough to use enamel paints.

Nicely done so far Delbert. Keep us posted.

Regards, Rick

Great job so far. That is an awesome kits isn’t it?

I just picked up that kit and will be doing it in the new year.

Can you tell me the Model Master paint numbers you used for the three color camo??

I prefer airbbrushing Tamiya acrylics myself, but the instructions call for AS colors. Would anyone know the corresponding XF numbers for the three color camoflague?

Thanks for the comments everyone they keep me going…

I’m using a Badger Universal 360 mostly. (same as the 155 but can work in gravity feed mode also) I think its a great airbrush, my only complaint is that using it in gravity feed mode its color cup is prob the smallest of any airbrush. I used it in siphon feed mode for all so far except the white. I have a Badger 175 cresendo also.

And I like how the Model Master enamal’s spray… I use a painting respirator so no probs there.

The Following is from Urban Fredriksson’s color reference charts, I can’t tell you how close the colors are but here are the XF# listed for Tamiya in them.

Ocean Grey XF54

Med Sea Grey XF53

HI Delby,

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated

How are you making out with it?

Any progress or has the holiday season stolen your build time?
