Hello all!
Yes, despite enemy’s of Her Majesty’s state keeping me busy, I have managed to finish my last build of 2010. This is Sqn. Ldr. Ian Gleed’s Hurricane Mk.I Nightfighter.
The kit id 1/48 Hasegawa, enhanced with a Squadron vac canopy and an Eduard seat harness.

Ahhhhh - glad to see they had problems with decals on the full-sized versions too! [:D]
Good job replicating that dusty black finish - what kind of paint mix/finishing did you use on that? I tried my hand at the Hobbycraft version & tried using a deep-deep blue mix to avoid looking “too black”
Very nice Darren, looks anything but cobbled together [Y], I like the finish very much, all black could appear a little dull but you’ve worked plenty of interest into the finish. Quite hard to find these Hasegawa hurricanes…

I used Humbrol Enamel flat black to paint the airframe. Weathered it with a watercolour wash of medium grey then to get the faded look, I finished it with a spray of unmixed matt varnish. Spraying matt varnish that has not been stirred first results in a dusty sheen to the model, fading the base colour.

I was wondering why the original plane’s markings (the A) is in that state. Was it not painted on? Are they tapes that got blown off on flight? bThe parts of the A seem to have gotten detached.

having pondered this myself I came to the conclusion that one of the panels was actually placed the wrong way round after maintenance. This would rearrange the letter “A” and of course have model builders debating for years to come…just my [2cnts]

Darren, Very nice looking Hurricane, the weathering is superb[Y][Y][Y]
On closer examination, the panel in question is actually not symmetrical – it cannot be placed wrong way around. The “A” is actually painted across both metal and fabric. The metal area appears to be a replaced panel and the grays on the panel may be from the source aircraft (more likely) or areas touched up awaiting the top coat of night.
One profile of this aircraft indicates significant areas of red dope, definitely touch up before the final top coat. But over metal that wouldn’t make sense, at least to me.
