Probably my last for '08, but with a first is my 1/72 Yak-11. This is my first attempt at a vac-u-form kit; I wanted to start with something simple. The landing gear looked too challenging, so I went with gear up and a tail wheel from the spares box. The canopy was aggravating because it was so flimsy; I surprised myself by just getting it on. Trying to tape it up would have been a disaster, so I used decal strips. Since the kit decals looked questionable, I pilfered the stash for something a little colorful. As finished, the Yak does not represent any particular aircraft, instead I wielded an artistic license.

Next on the vac list is a 1/72 Douglas O-43 sitting in my stash.
Deattilio – outstanding first Vac. You went with what I consider a challenging kit as well. While simple it’s got enough challenges to insist the builder have lots of experience. Goodonya!

Excellant product for a first vacumform. You made the right choice for a first in that it was a single engine low wing type without too many complications. Given that the vacumform company kit you selected is not one of the better quality producers it is a well done project. I would recommend that you consider finding vacumform models produced by companies such as Rareplanes, Eagle Talon and Maintrack if you want to build some additional 1/72nd scale vacumform models. Kits from these companies generally feaure cast medal landing gear and other small components as well as well formed main parts and sturdy canopies.

Thanks for the kind words. I will try another before hacking up my O-43 and take your advice by seeking out a kit by one of the mentioned producers.
Well done! I have yet to take the plunge into vacu-form kits. You did a remarkable job, especially considering the chosen brand of kit. [tup]
