here’s what I’ve been up to over the last fortnight. Its the ICM kit and its terrible to put together[V] I’ve had no end of trouble with it, but I have stuggled on. The kit is OOB in the markings of Australia’s highest scoring ace Grp.Capt. Clive Caldwell. I did the base myself, the artwork done on my computer. Its not finished yet, but now the markings are on I’d like to know what what you guys think of it.
There’s still plenty more to do-I’ll post more pics as progress is made.
This doesn’t sound to encouraging to me.
I’m afraid I’m building a 1/48 ICM kit too (Spit MkXVI). However, I haven’t been able to do much up until now (just began the engine).
Can you tell me what the major setbacks where in your build? I already figured out that the fuselages where extremely warped on mine, so I had to warm them up and tie them to a glass plate.
So, I would be most grateful if you could give me some more advice on this one.
Oh yes, and by the way, nice build. I hope I can get my Spit as nice as yours.
Come to think of it. I have an awful lot of ICM Spits in my stash [:(]. Maybe by the time I finish the last one, I’ll get the hang of it [:D]
the fuselage-wing joint is really bad, internal parts are oversized, make sure you dry-fit everything!(and I do mean everything-this should make your experience better than mine.) Secondly, throw the decals away, every single one of mine broke up as soon as they were placed onto the model. You’d be better off with a AM sheet in my opinion. I really hope you have much more luck than I have had.
Looking very nice Darren. Purists argue that the ICM is the most accurate Spit ever kitted, but it’s a bear to build. I think I’ll stick with the “inaccurate” Hasegawa kit. I really like the RAAF markings BTW. Nicely done.
Thanks for kind the words everyone, my kit has been a bear to build, however I have seen some ICM kits built into great looking models-I just wish I knew how it was done!
See you later,
Thanks for your comments, much appreaciated. I’m building another Aussie spit after this one, its another Mk.VIII from the Grey nurse squadron. But this time I’m using the Hasegawa kit-its goes together a lot easier than this one!
I love it, great job… As an Aussie, I know that if it were my plane, I would get a little bored with just the blue and white roundals, and would paint a little Kangarro in the middle in red???
Thanks for your kind words everyone! I still have much to do to this build so you comments are really appreciated after all the trouble that I’ve had on this project.
Karl, I’ll sort out those stabs-I need to put another satin coat on to seal everything in.
Thank-you! I still have the nose/prop assembly, canopy, anntenee wires, formation lights and a final flat coat to do. Also, I’ll be posing the model with a couple of figures and some ground equipment. So as you can see, still quite a bit to do!
Thanks Mark, Clive Caldwell’s score was 20.5, but I’m not sure if that included the kills he got when flying his P-40. I’ll look it up when I get the chance.
