Hi guys,
I just bought the Revell 1/72 RA-5C Vigilante kit.
Overall Ok, fine and accurate engraved panel lines, but that’s about it…
It has really thick, hard white plastic, a cockpit which doesn’t even look like a cockpit and 2 aliens who are supposed to be pilots ( Sparse Box!!!)…
One pieced canopy, and really thick clear parts…
I’m planning to cut the canopy and scratch me a good ejection seat…
Oh yeah, and the decals are yellowed…
So my question is:
Is there a company that produces decals for 1/72 Vigilantes?
Or how can I remove the yellow colour of the decals?
Cheers,
Jürgen
I remember reading somewhere that if you place the decals in a window where the sun hits them it will remove the yellowing. I never tried it so I don’t know from experience.
Zotz/Albatross makes an outstanding set of decals for this kit in both 1/48 and 1/72. In fact, there’s not a dog in their entire catalogue. This is one of the finest decal makers around, IMHO. You can get these sheets from just about any mail order house, like Squadron, or directly from them. I don’t have the link handy, but Google it and it’ll pop right up. For those making the Trumpeter Vigilantes, these decals are a godsend, since every last unit and national marking on the sheets that come with these kits are either the wrong shape, color or font, right down to the stencils. Shame on you Trumpeter. For that price, you shouldn’t have such consistently lousy decals. On my 1/24 Spitfire floatplane, MSRP $125, it’s the same story: The decals, including every stencil, is wrong, either the shape, the font or the arrangement of the words. And this ain’t rivet counting, it’s really obvious on the finished model.

Sharkskin, I couldn’t agree with you more. I bought the 72 scale Vigi from Trumpeter and the decals were among the worst I have ever seen. When the thickness of the letters and numbers isn’t even consistent, that’s bad. Good thing I oredered the Zotz decals from TwoBobs (www.twobobs.net) just before I bought the kit. Oustanding decal set indeed.
I bought the 1/48 sheet & it is very high Quality. A little pricey, but worth it.

I forgot to mention earlier that Superscale also made a set of decals for the Vigilante. If you can find them, they would be the more appropriate ones for your model as the Revell kit represents an early Vigi. The Zotz decals are for late Vigilantes. To use these, you would have to update your kit by adding a leading edge extension at the very least and a few other mods.
I received the Zotz, 1/48 decals last week from Squadron. Very nice decals. All I need now is a set of intake trunks and AM cockpit and I can start my vigi.
Having promoted the Zotz decals so loudly, it’s only right that I point out a mistake on them that is conspicuous, though easily fixed. If you plan to use the markings for RVAH-13 “Bats,” as I am, the conspicuous tail stripe that goes with the markings is the wrong color on the Zotz sheet. It should be a bright orange like the color on the squadron insignia on the side of the fuselage, not deep red as on the decal sheet. This can be easily masked and painted on. Use thin black decal cheater stripes for the top and bottom edges.
