Frequently I see people make a reply to an earlier message, and make a comment or question, without quoting the message they are referring to. If they are not referring to the immediately prior message, readers have no idea which message they are referring to. Folks, if your reply is about a specific earlier message, please qoute that message.
Right… although it would be nice I found we could quote from multiple messages at the same time as well. The forum used to have that feature. Other forums have that feature…
so our options in such cases are to quote from one poster at a time in multiple replies, or to have multiple replies to unknown previous posts in a single post that sometimes has the reader wondering.
I suppose it’s probably best to put together a word doc. and then paste as a reply.
Well I’m here primarily off mobile devices- phone and pad… not an option for me.
Multiple quotes is easy enough, if you’re on a PC. As far as I know how to do it, you have to open another window.
I “added quote to post” here. Now I’ll open another window and “add quote to post”…then “copy” it, in other window, then come back here and “paste”.
I don’t do much with my mobile, and don’t even know how/if another window could be open and be able to go back-n-forth.
When I get “cute” on the mobile, I start losing draft posts, which ruins my mood…
exactly
Sometimes I’ll reply to a few other people’s comments at the same time by calling them out by name.
For example:
Stik, thank you for pointing out the decal silvering, I will work to improve that.
GMorrison, you’re right, the Sherman never did use zimmerit coating.
Naming the poster you are answering is fine, as long as you somehow identify something about his post also. What I see sometimes, is that John Doe has already posted four responses, and someone says, John, why do you think that, and the last response from John is four or five messages above.
The two previous posts are fine, because they made it clear what they were responding too. Some do not.
Not even field applied?
Ive always felt that this sort of communication is pretty imperfect. I try to spend my forum time at my pc which allows more complete sentences.
Yep, that’s what I do here, if I want to cite more than one post in a quote.
