Per the request of a couple of viewers of FSM’s Reader Gallery, here are a few additional pics of my “Winter Scene” offering. Would you believe that I built this one over thirty years ago…and I will be the first to admit it now appears to me to be a bit cluttered, and not up to the extensive detailing, snowfall/ice creation, and rust effects that today’s techiniques and products make available to modelers…but, heck, it WAS FUN to build back in the day. To me, that is what first of all drives me to continue to build dioramas, armor, and aircraft…thanks for looking, guys.

Your creativity shines through from 30 years ago. And the fact that you kept it in such a preserved state shows some discipline. 30 years ago? I was frosting my windshields with modeling glue, and blowing up my models with M-80s. I don’t do that anymore.

Thank you, guys…your compliments are sincerely appreciated. When I look at this winter scene, I cannot for the life of me figure out why I used German soldiers adorned in summer uniforms in this snow scene…maybe 1/35 figures in winter garb or heavy coats were simply not available back then…I cannot remember. WintersTale…I, too, ruined many a canopy or windshield with good old fingerprints from good old Testors glue…I still dread doing an aircraft canopy, and usually do not model aircraft for that reason…although today’s canopy masks help tremendously.
I also remember using a knife heated over a candle to “chop the top” on A.M.T. car kits back then, then using my Grandfather’s big belt grinder to smooth plastic parts. Use an air compressor then to paint?..no way, as I could not afford one…I used the Badger cans of compressed air to paint…which were pretty hit and miss, and often provided a few dreaded raindrops on a beautiful candy apple paint job… " Fun, fun, fun! "…to quote the Beach Boys’ tune.
The injured soldier and the mechanic working under the tank were additions I inserted, along with some fresh snow from Scenic Express, when I prepared to photograph it for FSM…I think they are Dragon figures? I cannot remember…
