I’ve always loved history. It started when I was a little kid, and I heard my uncles and great-uncles tell stories about their time in World War II. I’ve always been a voracious reader, too; I read every book the school library had, and the public library, and learned more. And that drove my interest in building models. I was never that interested in cars-I wanted to build the ships, the tanks, the planes, that I read about.
As I got older, I got interested in other time periods, too.
The old sayings about learning from history, or failing to learn from it, are true. Not only at the global level, but even at the level of our individual lives, there are things we can learn from what happened in the past, decisions people made.
I have to admit that one of the ones I missed for an ancient leader (I won’t say which since others may not have taken the quiz yet) I missed in part because I thought “well that picture doesn’t look anything like what “I thought” that ruler looked like, so its probably some other guy”.
I guess my perception of ancient times is probably somewhat messed up by thinking all old rulers either looked like Richard Burton, Rex Harrison, or some other similar famous British Actor, since that seems to be who always played them in the movies [:P]
only 33 correct… some I should’ve known but missed for no good reason. Perhaps I am getting ADD in my old age, hey! squirrel!!..
The next quiz was guessing what decade based on a single photo, I got 38 out of 40 correct. All were in the 20th century stemming from the 20’s to the 80’s.
