Quietest Comp?

Hello. I am just starting to learn how to use an airbrush, Badger 360, and want to purchase a quieter compressor than my 1 ½ hp garage model. I am thinking of a reconditioned Thayer & Chandler Air Star V, SilentAir Scorpion II or the Iwata Sprint Jet. Which would be the quietest of these units? I read somewhere here that the Scorpion II is 30dB.

I would also like to keep above 35 - 40 lbs working pressure, but under $200.00

Thank you for your help.

the quietest would probubly be mike’s jun air. maybe he still has it ofr sale…

No, the Jun-Air is louder. It is around 40 dB.
That is still really quiet though.

Mr Bones ,

I am not sure but I think the Air Star V may be the same compressor as the other two you mentioned. They are all made overseas and look real similar.

Isn’t the Scorpion II the only one of the three with 2 cylinders?

MrBones

I believe so, yes.

when talking decibles, you are talking about the low hum, the mid range and the high pitch altogether. You can get a compressor that’s high in the decibles but has no high pitched scream. Those would be the oil-lubed ones. Mine has a pretty fat dose of low hum to it with no scream. It’s a Makita Mac700 that I paid $180 for.

it’s like musle cars and their mad loudness, and ricers with their high pitched “high performance” exhausts and chrome tips.

Thanks for your help everyone. I will shop around for the best prices and in the meantime, build/order a spray booth.
