I’m about to spray MM flat on my F4. It has rubber tires that look off due to them being shiny. Normally on kits with real rubber tires I’ll put them on last. However this time I want to take the shine off them.
Will MM lacquer clear flat harm the rubber or have any adverse effects??
Hey tell you what. Check back in this thread tomorrow and I’ll post a couple pics.
It’s not done I still have the canopies and ejection seats to do as well as some odds and ends. All the missiles need paint. The model is showtime 100 1/32 from Tamiya.
Make sure you do your research if you are doing Showtime 100 of the day of its triple Mig killing mission. The aircraft was loaded with two AIM-7E’s on the aft stations, four AIM-9G’s on the inboard stations. Outboard stations were empty, no tanks or pylons. A 600 Gallon centerline tank. TER’s on the inboard pylons with three MK-20’s on each TER. Let me know if you need information on what markings were used if you don’t have that information.
I’m doing this OOB and the good folk at Tamiya unfortunately only saw fit to include 4 AIM-7Es and 4 AIM-9Es so that’s whats going on there. I used the kit decals as well. And I think I over-weathered her a little. I was going to put the outboard tanks on her. I didn’t do any research on this I just followed the instructions and looked at a coulple pics online.
I’ll just pretend it was the day before her triple mig kill. [(-D]
The problem is the Navy did not use the AIM-9E’s. Only the USAF used them plus a few NATO countries as well. At that time the Navy used the AIM-9D, G, and very few AIM-8H’s. Also the Navy did not use the 370 gallon wing tanks except for deploying to and from the ship. The 600 Gal center line tank was the standard tank used for all missions.
Well it’s a good thing my model won’t be flying any missions!! [(-D]
I realize it’s not accurate but I had lots of fun building it and I’m happy with it. At this point my wing has two big holes and I’m not fixing them now so on the tanks go!I also didn’t fix the BDR patches.
Anyways here’s a couple pics of the incomplete model as it is now.
Wow, Maxpower! Thats a really nice F-4 and none too soon since I will be starting my own Showtime 100 project in the near future(mine is 1/48th, however). I will be refering back to your handiwork many times! I especially like the realistic weathering, most especially on the "spine" adjacent to the jet nozzles-very effective! Nice panel line shading too, which is very hard to bring off correctly in that large 1/32nd scale. Cant wait to see the final product!
Max, I built the Monogram 1/48 Showtime 100 F-4J not long ago and with Berny’s Phabulous Phantom know how its came it turned out awesome, one of my best builds.
Here is mine when I posted the finished product for my old Mig Killlers GB. I decided to do a mission accurate version and used a resin pit set. I had alot of problems with the resin pit and canopy fit. I needed alot of help just to finish it, thankfully with Berny’s advice and help from fellow modelers with parts such as Eddie, Randie and a few others it came out great.
