Will any one be about to tell me if the C models only have flat main gear doors or with the buldge doors. 2nd question is if the C’s had the buldge did the 1st FW have them on their acft. Charlie
The F-15A/B/C/D have the flat gear doors. Only the F-15E has the buldged gear doors. That is because they have heavier landing gear due to the weight they carry.
I’m pretty sure they had the flat doors. since I had been around Langley for 11 years and had seen everything that was on those birds. Did you know that 1st FW was the testbed unit for the Strike Eagle project.
Thanks for the info berny. That will help me complete my F-15C for my suporvisor. will try to post pics soon. Charlie
Mikeym, I did not know that. do you have pics of the squadron w/ the blue tail flash. sorry can’t remember which squadron it is. [censored] meds. charlie
That would be the 94th FS. Sorry I don’t have any pictures since I didn’t have a digital camera at that time. But my dad still has the picture that was hanging in the 94th’s Squadron ready room (picture of the squadron commanders bird)before the whole building was renovated and that they forgot to ask him to give back[:D].
Yup my dad had the rounds of all three squadrons on Langley 94th 27th and 71st. He started as the 94th FS squadron commanders Crew Chief in 1982 and retired as Wing Commander Richard Meyers Crew Chief in 1993. But there should be some pics of some 94th FS F-15C’s in Squadrons F-15 in Action and F-15 Walk Around since I am also planning on building a couple F-15C’s one as the 1st FW wing Commanders bird and the one Steve Tate flew with the 71st when he downed that Mirage in the first Gulf War.
