I was in my LHS the other day and saw a few kits that I thought might be good buys, does anyone know about them:
Kit 1:
Smer 1/48 MiG-17PF/ Lim-6
I know Smer can be a bit questionable at times, but this is the only 1/48 injected MiG-17 I’ve ever seen save an old Airfix kit I’ve not seen available for years. Are the Smer and Airfix kit the same? If not, is the Smer kit generally good, in scale with good detail for 1/48?
Kits 2 and 3
Revell 1/48 Beech V-35A Bonanza and Minicraft 1/48 kit of same aircraft type.
Are these the same kit in different boxing? If they are different, which is the better kit?
Thanks in advance
There is a MiG 17 done by Hobbycraft in 1/48. I have the F version. It’s so so on detail but the outline is right. These may all come from the same molds. The Bonanza is one and the same. They all originated as a Bandai kit in the sixties. Once again not much on detail but it looks right.
Where did you find the Hobbycraft kit? I didn’t think any other manufacturers had on in 1/48.
I have made the Heller Mig 17 kit , which I believe is the same kit as the Airfix one, which in turn is the same kit as the Smer one. However, I used to have the Hobbycraft Mig 17 up until recently, and I can tell you that it is not the same as the Smer kit. I found this one to be very basic compared to the Smer kit.
I picked it up at Hobby Lobby about six years ago. It’s part of their war eagles line. It took me about 9 months of detailing to get looking halfway respectable. Its now doing duty as a paint test bed.
Thanks guys.
Thanks particularly for the review link Waikong.
I suspected the Bonanza kits would be the same, I can’t imagine two different kits of that bird considering the sparse coverage tha general aviation gets in this hobby, but it doesn’t hurt to ask right?
Trumpeter do Mig 17’s galore, the only problem is they are 1/32nd scale
