Questions about 1/24 Stukas

At a local model show I attended last week, I was given an aircraft that a friend of mine was building when he passed away last year. He was an older gentleman with some health problems, which finally caught up with him.

The model in question is a 1/24 Stuka, I was told the Bandai kit. I really don’t know much more about than that, and when it was given to me it looked like the majority of the parts were there. Unfortunately, upon closer inspection, quite a few parts are missing from it. I think buying another one for the missing parts is probably the best way to go. I really want to finish it as I think he would be happy that someone did something with it instead of it being thrown in the trash.

My question is, are the Bandai/MPC/Airfix 1/24 scale Stukas from the same mold? I found a couple over at the auction site, but want to make sure that the parts from the new one will fit correctly on the other one. Thanks for your help.

I know the MPC/Airfix ones are from the same moulds, don’t know about Bandai. I built one of the old MPC ones, and it went together pretty well… an impressive size when finished too. They seem to go for about US$40-$50 on evil bay, unless you could get one that was incomplete, which would be cheaper.

Never heard of Bandi making a 1/24th Stuka kit just Airfix. You might try contacting Airfix for replacement parts, I have done that several times and have always gotten excellent customer service from them. Good luck on the build, it is a fun kit to build.

Thanks for the info, maybe I will try to contact Airfix. Any idea how to contact them?

Here’s their address…

Airfix Service dept Marfleet, Hull England, HU-9 5-NE

As I said, they were quick to replace a couple broken B-17 props and several old decal sheets for me in the past so I give them a [tup] on customer service.

Sadly, the Airfix site at Marfleet Hull ceased operating when Airfix went out of business last year. Saw some photo’s of the place on another forum & it is now abandoned. Pretty much all that is left there is the old gate guardian Hawker Hunter, and that has been vandalised.

With Hornby buying Airfix, things are starting to come back online. According to a question & answer session with someone at Hornby/Airfix posted on another forum last week though, the spares service isn’t up & running again yet.

In case mail is not being forwared from Marfleet, your best bet may be to keep an eye out for the re-launch of the Airfix Website, which shouldn’t be far away. On their old site, you could order spares by email. Hopefully, the new one will be the same as it was very handy. If not, it should tell you what you need to do. Airfix spares of old were very good. Hopefully, the new operation won’t let things slip.

If you visit http://www.airfix.com/? , you can register to be notified when it re-launches.

Good luck with the Stuka. I have one on the go myself at the moment. It’s a bit on the large side [:)]
