Now that I can actually spell it right (camouflage)… I am wondering if there is a good website to comare and contrast different types of aircraft and/or clothing military camouflage. I am particularly looking at current desert camouflage for military aircraft (doesn’t have to be historically accurate for this model).

Use any good search engine and type in the aircraft you’re looking for or type
in the squadron that flew or flies the type you’re looking for.
For clothing, you could try searching ebay, they have plenty of people selling US desert cammo, and some british. Or you could try www.uscav.com for US uniforms, Otherwise most search engines will come up with something if you try searching by key word.
The USMC is testing a new camo pattern, much “tighter” than the army’s.

that should help you out a lot, you can check out individual units and see if they have a web page or not, I think the airforce has a similar type thing as well?
the marines already have the new uniform and it was turned down by the army, we’re getting new stuff by 2005ish? I read the article in stars and strips, if i can find the article on line i’ll put a link on here they have some cool options!
I can tell you that the only Air Force jets right now that have desert type paint schemes are the hh-60 and maybe the hh-53 helicopters. All the otheer active duty aircraft have some sort of gray scale paint scheme to match their altitude environment. Let me know what aircaft you are looking for and I can probably point you in the right direction. I am an aircraft maintnenace officer for the AF. Let me know.

The new Marince Corps camo is from a Canadian company that designed the new Canadian forces camo. The Marines pattern, called Marpat, is available in a Woodland, Desert and Urban color scheme. Wonder of the Corps plans a varaiation for their vehicles and a/c? - Ed

The MH-60Gs and MH-53Js also use gray, not camouflage. [:D]

Some of the HH-60’s, not spec ops kind of helos, use the desert paint scheme. We have them where I am based right now. Also, the A-10, of which I am partial to because I have worked them (not on them per se), had an experimental desert scheme back right before the first Gulf War. go to www.a-10.org and it will have some pictures of the color scheme.
Also, in the uniform arena, the Marines are the only ones who have the new uniforms. Saw them in the desert. Kind of looks like a digitized camouflage pattern. the pattern really messes with your eyesight!
There was an experimamental night cammo cloth that came out about 10 years ago, it was a dull green, with a black grid printed on it, with random squares coloured black. The idea was to confuse night vision equipment. I think it was in limited issue during the last gulf war.
Would be really hard to paint on a figure, even 120mm would make a mess of your eye site.
Painting the grid would be the easy part on a figure. Inside some of the blocks on the grid are little tiny “Eagle, Globe and Anchors,” in real life they are only about 3/8" tall. The U.S.M.C. got the idea for the camo originally from the Germans who tried a similar thing in WW II, but the Corps’ current camo is computer generated.
There was talk of removing the “Eagle, Globe and Anchor” from production cammies, but on the early/test ones, they are definately on. Someone with more current info may know if they are still there.
