Squadron has a Hobbycraft kit of this subject for under 20 bucks. My dad is dying to get back in the game but his eyes are bad. Does anyone know how big a 1/48th A-10 is? Also at that price I’m thinking it’s not a super detailed thing with lots of small parts. He does not want that. Any help would be appreciated.
Unfortunately it does have a lot of smaller parts. The best gift you can get your dad so he can enjoy modeling more with bad eyes is an Optivisor and also consider getting the light pack that goes with it. I know many of us find the need for such devices.
By eyeballing the one I got, roughly 13 + 1/2 in. long X 15 in. span.

If you have access to a Hobby Lobby store, they have an Optivisor for $22 that has multiple magnifications up to 8X. Using their 40% off coupon for any one item will get it down to around $14. I just bought one to replace an old one and I love it.

I just did a Revell A-10 that was under $20. It’s my first model back since I was a little kid and for a starter kit it was perfect. Not a whole lot of detail but enough to ease you into it, easy to assemble, not a whole lot of small work or parts. For less than $20 it was a fun investment and I learned a ton of info that I applied to my current F-15C.
If you can find that kit, which I doubt would be hard (looked like it was re-pressed in 2008), I think it’d be a good way to ease you dad back into it.
Oh and Fermis is very close on the dimensions.
I have not build the A-10 from hobbycraft - but I have built a lot of Hobbycraft stuff… you might actually do ok with this as Hobbycraft is notoriously light on the “fiddly” details… simplified cockpits, etc…
Couldn’t find a review on it though…
