Maybe this has already been addressed, but what kind of Tiger was Wittman killed in? I know the Dragon Late Tiger has decals for the 007, but did it not have the old style wheels? I have done some research and have read there is a thought that the “007” that he was killed in, was a renumbered version of the old model Tiger. Regardless, and I know that there could be endless debate, has anyone modeled this Tiger? And if so, any particular reason as to why on model over the other? I am about to get started on the 007, but not sure which road wheels to use.
It wasn’t actually his Tiger. It belonged to Ostubaf. Heinz von Westernhagen as of June 6, 44. Whittman’s Tiger was actually #205 on the 6th. I’m not sure why they switched tanks though. My guess is 205 was under repair.
EDIT: I jsut read that von Westernhagen was injured and Whittman assumed command. That is why he was in 007.
Satori, I’m afraid you lost me there… was that tank in your photo (205) repainted to become the Wittman tank (007)? How is it relevant to the question?
And what does “Standard Late” mean? It’s a new term to me. Two-part turret roof or one-part? Large or small muzzle brake? etc.
As Geist pointed out earlier, 205 was Witmann’s tiger, not 007.
Standard late means everything seemed to be standard setup of a late model Tiger ausf E. Small idlers, steel wheels (2nd type), factory zimmerit, monocular gun sight, late mantlet (one of the types), late loader hatch, no crane mountings… Or in other words, it doesn’t appeared to be a hybrid, like many other Tigers in normandy, with mid production and final production elements.
For those of you that have modeled this particular Tiger, what did you use? The standard late, or a hybrid of the older model tires plus some features found on the newer model?
